Job Description The Civil Engineer is responsible for the planning, execution, supervision and technical coordination of civil and building construction works. The role ensures that construction activities are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, engineering standards, project schedules, quality requirements and safety procedures. The Civil Engineer works closely with the Project Manager, Quantity Surveyor, Surveyor, Architects, consultants, contractors and site teams to ensure that projects are delivered safely, accurately, within budget and according to the required quality standards. Key Responsibilities Construction Planning and Execution Plan and coordinate day-to-day civil construction activities. Ensure works are executed according to approved drawings, specifications and project schedules. Coordinate labour, materials, equipment and subcontractors required for assigned works. Monitor progress and ensure activities are completed within agreed timelines. Site Supervision: Supervise construction activities on site. Monitor excavation, foundation, concrete, blockwork, drainage, roads and other civil works. Ensure work is executed in the correct sequence and to the required standards. Provide technical direction to supervisors, foremen and construction workers. Technical Drawing Review: Review architectural, structural and civil engineering drawings. Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary expenditure without compromising quality. Report excessive material usage, rework and avoidable losses. Site Testing and Inspection: Coordinate required material and construction tests. Monitor concrete testing, soil compaction and other applicable tests. Ensure test results are properly documented. Escalate failed tests and ensure corrective action is taken. Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance: Ensure construction activities comply with approved HSE procedures. Promote safe working practices among site personnel. Ensure appropriate PPE is used. Report unsafe conditions, incidents and environmental concerns immediately. Site Documentation: Maintain accurate site records, drawings, inspection records and technical reports. Record daily activities, site instructions, materials and significant events. Ensure approved drawings and specifications available on site are current. Maintain proper documentation for project handover. Coordination with Consultants: Coordinate with structural engineers, architects, surveyors, quantity surveyors and other consultants. Participate in technical and site meetings. Implement approved technical instructions. Follow up on outstanding technical issues affecting construction. Variation and Technical Change Support Identify construction changes, discrepancies and additional works. Notify the Project Manager of potential variations. Provide technical information required for assessment of variations. Ensure no unauthorized changes are incorporated into the works. Snagging and Project Completion: Conduct inspections of completed works. Identify defects and prepare snag lists. Coordinate rectification of identified defects. Support final inspection, testing and project handover. Team Leadership and General Duties: Supervise and develop junior engineering and site personnel. Promote discipline, teamwork and professional standards. Provide technical guidance to the construction team. Perform other duties assigned by the Project Manager or Management. Requirements Education BSc / B.Eng. in Civil Engineering or related discipline. Must possess relevant professional registration where required for the role. Experience: Minimum of 5 - 8 years of relevant experience in civil/building construction. Proven experience in site supervision and construction project execution. Experience in foundations, concrete works, drainage, roads and general building construction. Experience working with contractors, consultants and multidisciplinary project teams. Experience on medium to large-scale construction projects is an advantage.
