ABOUT THE ROLE

Lindii Peace Foundation (LPF) is seeking a qualified, compassionate and experienced Nurse Officer to provide quality nursing care and support the effective delivery of health services to vulnerable and crisis-affected populations.

The Nurse Officer will be responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care, supporting clinical assessment and treatment, monitoring patients, administering medications and contributing to health promotion, disease prevention and patient education in accordance with approved clinical guidelines and professional standards.

The successful candidate will work closely with Medical Doctors, midwives, pharmacists, laboratory personnel, community health workers and other members of the health team to ensure safe, timely and patient-centred care.

The position will also contribute to infection prevention and control, accurate clinical documentation, referrals, emergency response and continuous improvement of the quality of healthcare services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Nursing Care and Patient Management

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in accordance with established clinical guidelines and nursing standards.

Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Support

  • Support the delivery of maternal, newborn and child health services as applicable to the programme.
  • Assist with antenatal, postnatal and other relevant maternal health services.
  • Support the identification of high-risk pregnancies and facilitate appropriate referral.
  • Provide appropriate nursing care to mothers and newborns within the scope of professional competence.
  • Support child health assessments and management of common childhood conditions.
  • Provide health education to mothers, caregivers and families on appropriate healthcare practices.
  • Promote timely care-seeking and adherence to treatment and follow-up recommendations.

Medication and Treatment Administration

  • Administer prescribed medications in accordance with approved procedures and treatment protocols.
  • Verify prescriptions and patient information before medication administration.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions and report concerns promptly.
  • Support appropriate medication adherence and patient education.
  • Work closely with the pharmacist and clinical team on medication-related concerns.
  • Maintain accurate medication administration records.
  • Report medication errors, adverse drug reactions or other patient safety concerns through established mechanisms.

Infection Prevention and Control

  • Adhere to established infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
  • Apply appropriate hand hygiene and standard precautions during patient care.
  • Use personal protective equipment appropriately.
  • Support proper sterilization, disinfection and safe handling of medical equipment.
  • Ensure appropriate segregation and disposal of healthcare waste.
  • Promote infection prevention practices among patients, caregivers and health workers.
  • Report infection control risks or breaches to the appropriate supervisor.

Patient Education and Health Promotion

  • Provide patients and caregivers with appropriate health information and counselling.
  • Educate patients on medication use, treatment adherence and follow-up care.
  • Support health promotion and disease prevention activities.
  • Provide information on hygiene, nutrition, maternal and child health and other relevant health topics.
  • Participate in community health education and awareness activities where required.

Patient Records and Clinical Documentation

  • Maintain accurate, complete and timely nursing documentation.
  • Record patient observations, treatment, medication administration and nursing interventions appropriately.

  • Ensure relevant registers, referral forms and other clinical records are properly completed.
  • Contribute to accurate collection and reporting of health service data.

Referral and Continuity of Care

  • Identify patients requiring medical review, specialist care or referral.
  • Promptly communicate referral needs to the Medical Doctor or appropriate supervisor.
  • Support preparation of patients for referral and ensure relevant documentation is completed.
  • Follow up on referred patients where required and support continuity of care.
  • Maintain appropriate referral records and documentation.
  • Ensure patients and caregivers understand referral instructions and follow-up requirements.

Emergency and Clinical Support

  • Respond promptly and appropriately to medical emergencies within the scope of professional competence.
  • Provide first aid and emergency nursing interventions as required.
  • Assist Medical Doctors and other clinical staff during emergency management.
  • Monitor critically ill or unstable patients and promptly escalate changes in condition.
  • Ensure emergency equipment and essential supplies are appropriately available and maintained.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities where required.

Teamwork and Technical Support

  • Work collaboratively with Medical Doctors, midwives, pharmacists, laboratory personnel, community health workers and other health staff.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case management and clinical review meetings.
  • Provide appropriate nursing guidance and support to junior or support health personnel where applicable.
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful and professional working environment.
  • Maintain effective communication with programme and support teams.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings and other professional development activities.

Programme Reporting and Quality Improvement

  • Contribute to timely and accurate health programme reports.
  • Support collection and analysis of relevant nursing and health service data.

  • Identify gaps affecting the quality or safety of nursing services and recommend practical improvements.
  • Support implementation of corrective actions and agreed quality improvement measures.
  • Participate in outreach, mobile clinics or other programme activities where required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc), Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Midwife (RM), or equivalent recognized nursing qualification.
  • Valid registration and current practising licence with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional nursing experience.
  • Demonstrated experience providing direct patient care in a hospital, health facility, humanitarian programme or similar healthcare setting.
  • Good knowledge of nursing procedures, clinical guidelines and infection prevention and control practices.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) from a recognized institution. Valid registration and current practising licence with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN). Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience. Demonstrated experience in dispensing, pharmaceutical stock management and patient counselling. Good knowledge of pharmaceutical management, medicine storage and inventory control. Good understanding of rational medicine use and prescription review. Knowledge of pharmacovigilance and medication safety practices. Strong documentation, reporting and record-keeping skills. Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. High level of integrity, confidentiality and professional responsibility. Desirable Experience Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, UN agencies or humanitarian/development organizations. Experience working in conflict-affected, hard-to-reach or resource-constrained environments. Experience managing medicines and pharmaceutical supplies across multiple health facilities or locations. Experience with pharmaceutical forecasting and quantification. Experience with donor-funded health programmes. Experience in emergency response or humanitarian health programming. Familiarity with national essential medicines guidelines and humanitarian health standards. Experience supporting pharmaceutical audits, assessments or quality improvement activities.
