About the Role

  • We are looking for an Accountant to support our finance and accounts function as we scale. This role handles the business's daily accounting operations, including bookkeeping, reconciliations, invoicing, and compliance support, and works closely with and reports to the Head of Accounts. It is a strong fit for someone attentive to detail who wants to grow within a structured finance team at a quickly growing legal technology company.

You Should Apply If

  • You have one to four years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a similar finance support role, or you are a fresh graduate with a strong academic accounting background and relevant internship experience
  • You hold a Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting or Finance
  • You are comfortable with large volumes of detail-heavy transactional work
  • You have a solid grasp of double-entry bookkeeping, reconciliations, and standard accounting principles
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets and have working knowledge of accounting software such as QuickBooks or Sage 50
  • You are based in Lagos or its environs

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate books of accounts, including journal entries, ledgers, and daily bookkeeping
  • Process accounts payable, such as vendor invoices and payments, and accounts receivable, such as client invoicing and collections follow-up
  • Perform regular bank and ledger reconciliations
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities
  • Support preparation of financial statements and management reports under the Head of Accounts' guidance
  • Assist with statutory compliance filings, including tax returns and other applicable filings, and maintain supporting documentation
  • Support internal and statutory audit processes by preparing schedules and responding to auditor queries
  • Track and process employee expense reimbursements and payroll-related accounting entries
  • Maintain proper filing and documentation of financial records for compliance and audit readiness
  • Assist with vendor and client account reconciliations
  • Flag discrepancies, errors, or process gaps to the Head of Accounts

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting or Finance
  • Partly qualified or pursuing a professional certification such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, or Certified Management Accountant is an advantage but not mandatory
  • Working knowledge of accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage 50, or similar enterprise resource planning tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
  • One to four years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a similar finance support role; fresh graduates with a strong academic accounting background may also be considered
  • Experience in a startup, software as a service, or technology company is an advantage but not required
  • Exposure to legal or professional services billing structures is an advantage, though not required
