Job Summary

  • We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant with hands-on experience using Sage accounting software to manage day-to-day accounting operations, maintain accurate financial records, and support financial reporting and compliance.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for recording financial transactions, preparing reconciliations and reports, managing accounts payable and receivable, assisting with payroll and statutory requirements, and ensuring that accounting records are accurate and up to date.

Key Responsibilities

  • Record and maintain accurate financial transactions using Sage accounting software.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Prepare and process invoices, receipts, payments, and expense claims.
  • Perform regular bank, supplier, customer, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate and well-organized accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
  • Assist with budgeting, cash-flow monitoring, and financial analysis.
  • Monitor outstanding customer and supplier balances and follow up on discrepancies.
  • Process payroll and maintain payroll-related accounting records, where applicable.
  • Assist with preparation and submission of statutory and tax-related reports in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required financial records and documentation.
  • Identify accounting discrepancies and investigate and resolve issues promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and applicable financial regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and employee information.
  • Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualification or progress toward one (e.g., CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) is an advantage.
  • 2 - 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a similar role.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Sage accounting software.
  • Good knowledge of bookkeeping, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, and financial reporting.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other accounting/office applications.
  • Experience with payroll and statutory compliance is an advantage.

About the Role We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented and highly organized Junior Accountant to join our team in Nairobi. The Junior Accountant will support the maintenance of accurate financial records across multiple companies and accounts, including transaction recording, bank and M-PESA reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, inventory reconciliation, expense management, statutory compliance and financial documentation. The position is suitable for an early-career accounting professional with a solid accounting foundation who is interested in developing practical experience in a structured, multi-company and inventory-based business environment. We use an integrated ERP system to manage our accounting, inventory and operational activities. Previous experience working with accounting or ERP software is an advantage, but training will be provided on our systems and processes. Key Responsibilities Accounting & Reconciliation Record and review daily financial transactions accurately in our ERP system. Perform bank, M-PESA, cash and other account reconciliations. Maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable records. Record and reconcile intercompany transactions and internal fund transfers. Ensure transactions have appropriate receipts, invoices and supporting documentation. Review expense documentation and correctly categorize transactions. Investigate unreconciled, unmatched or incorrectly recorded transactions. Support monthly accounting close and reconciliation activities. Support the preparation of accounting and management reports. Inventory Accounting & Control Maintain accurate inventory-related accounting records within the ERP system. Reconcile inventory records between the ERP system, supporting documents and physical stock counts. Participate in periodic physical inventory counts and stock verification exercises. Review inventory receipts, transfers, consumption and adjustments to ensure transactions are properly recorded and supported. Identify and investigate discrepancies between physical inventory and system records. Assist with inventory valuation and ensure inventory-related transactions are correctly reflected in the accounts. Monitor inventory adjustments, damaged stock, write-offs and other inventory movements requiring accounting review. Work with operations and inventory staff to resolve stock discrepancies and improve inventory record accuracy. Escalate significant or recurring inventory variances to management. Tax & Statutory Compliance Assist with VAT, PAYE and other statutory accounting and tax requirements. Stay informed of changes to Kenyan tax laws, regulations, statutory requirements and other tax-related developments relevant to the company's operations. Proactively communicate relevant regulatory changes, deadlines and potential implications to management. Maintain appropriate records and supporting documentation for statutory filings and compliance requirements. Systems, Controls & Documentation Maintain organized digital accounting records and supporting documentation. Maintain assigned accounting tasks and timesheets in our ERP system. Follow established accounting procedures, internal controls and approval processes. Identify and escalate accounting discrepancies or unusual transactions. Support external accountants and auditors when required. Perform other accounting and administrative duties as required. Qualifications & Requirements Candidates should have: A degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration or a related field. CPA qualification, current CPA studies, ACCA qualification/current ACCA studies, or an equivalent recognized professional accounting qualification. 2-3 years of relevant accounting experience. Sound understanding of double-entry accounting and general ledger principles. Good understanding of bank and account reconciliation. Knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. Understanding of inventory accounting and stock reconciliation. Familiarity with Kenyan statutory accounting and tax requirements. Good Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills. Experience using accounting software or an ERP system is an advantage.
