Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Account Officer to support the company\'s day-to-day accounting and financial operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, payment processing, financial reporting, and other accounting activities.

The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of accounting principles and bookkeeping practices, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Experience or familiarity with the real estate industry, property management, or related businesses will be an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Record and maintain accurate day-to-day financial transactions and bookkeeping records.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Record and process customer payments, including rent and other property-related income where applicable.
  • Process vendor invoices, employee expense claims, and other payments in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on overdue payments.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, supplier statements, customer accounts, and other financial records.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial records and transactions.
  • Prepare payment schedules and process approved payments and cash disbursements.
  • Maintain accurate records of expenses, income, invoices, receipts, and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor cash flow and provide regular updates to management.
  • Prepare periodic financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, and other management reports.
  • Assist with the preparation and monitoring of budgets and expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Review financial transactions to ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures.
  • Review outstanding purchase orders and liaise with relevant departments to ensure they are properly cleared and processed.
  • Ensure invoices are accurately entered into the finance system, purchase orders are raised where required, and goods/services are properly receipted before payment.
  • Reconcile supplier statements, liaise with vendors, and ensure outstanding invoice queries are resolved promptly.
  • Maintain proper and up-to-date financial documentation for audit and reporting purposes.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing relevant financial records and documentation.
  • Assist management with financial analysis and other accounting-related reports when required.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure proper financial controls and adherence to approved budgets.
  • Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records relating to rental income, property expenses, and other property-related transactions.
  • Assist with tenant/customer account reconciliation and monitoring of outstanding balances.
  • Support the finance team in tracking property-related expenses and vendor payments.
  • Assist with financial reporting and analysis relating to properties and real estate projects, where applicable.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping and basic accounting principles.
  • Good understanding of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using QuickBooks or similar accounting/ERP software.
  • Ability to reconcile accounts and identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prepare accurate financial reports and maintain proper accounting records.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of real estate/property management accounting is an added advantage.

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor\'s degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Banking & Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

Professional Qualification:

  • ICAN, ACCA, ACA, or other relevant professional accounting qualification/certification is an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years\' relevant experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or a related role.
  • Experience working in a real estate, property management, construction, or related industry will be an added advantage.
