Job Description

  • The Structural Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and reviewing structural components for ongoing and upcoming construction projects.
  • The incumbent ensures that all structural designs comply with safety standards, building codes, and engineering best practices, while working closely with site teams and the General Manager (Technical) to guarantee structural integrity and flawless project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed structural designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications for building foundations, frames, and civil infrastructure.
  • Utilize industry-standard engineering software to model, simulate, and analyze structural loads, stress tolerances, and material behaviors.
  • Review architectural plans and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure structural feasibility and alignment with project specifications.
  • Conduct routine site visits and inspections to monitor construction progress and ensure works strictly conform to approved structural designs and engineering codes.
  • Assess construction materials (concrete, steel, reinforcement bars, etc.) for quality compliance and adherence to statutory standards.
  • Identify potential structural defects or site discrepancies early and provide prompt, practical engineering solutions.
  • Enforce strict compliance with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols across all structural engineering and construction phases.
  • Ensure designs and site activities comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner closely with the Engineering Department, project managers, and site supervisors during daily toolbox meetings and operational planning.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of structural calculations, design modifications, site inspection logs, and progress reports.
  • Provide technical inputs and reports to the General Manager (Technical) as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.Sc./B.Eng.) in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering. Professional registration (e.g., COREN) is mandatory.
  • 10 years of active structural engineering experience within the construction, infrastructure, or industrial sector.
  • Proficiency in structural design and analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Staad Pro, ETABS, or equivalent).
  • In-depth knowledge of Nigerian building codes and international engineering standards.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, close attention to detail, and excellent communication skills
