Job role The Pharmacy Manager will provide senior operational leadership and day-to-day management for AMCE's pharmacy services across inpatient, outpatient, and specialised care areas. The role holder will coordinate clinical, operational, and supply chain pharmacy activities, strengthen medication safety and regulatory compliance, and support service growth as the department expands in scope and complexity. This role will also serve as a key link between pharmacy leadership and frontline operational teams to ensure efficient, high-quality, and patient-centred pharmacy service delivery. Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities Operational Management and Service Delivery: Oversee the day-to-day operational management of pharmacy services across inpatient, outpatient, and specialised clinical areas. Coordinate pharmacy workflows, workforce deployment, shift coverage, and service priorities to ensure timely and efficient service delivery. Monitor service performance, identify operational bottlenecks, and implement improvements to strengthen patient experience and departmental productivity. Medication Safety, Clinical Governance and Quality: Promote safe, evidence-based, and patient-centred medication use across all pharmacy service areas. Drive compliance with medication safety protocols, formulary controls, antimicrobial stewardship practices, incident reporting, and corrective action implementation. Lead quality improvement initiatives that enhance safety, dispensing accuracy, documentation standards, turnaround time, and regulatory readiness. Inventory, Procurement and Supply Chain Oversight: Provide operational oversight for inventory management, stock availability, controlled medicines, cold-chain products, and medication storage standards. Work with procurement, stores, finance, and clinical stakeholders to support timely sourcing, replenishment, and rational use of medicines and consumables. Monitor stock movement, expiries, wastage, shortages, and usage trends, recommending actions to improve cost control and supply reliability. People Management, Mentorship and Succession Support: Provide direct supervision, coaching, and mentorship to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, interns, and support staff. Support workforce planning, competency development, roster management, performance feedback, and professional development for pharmacy team members. Contribute to succession planning and strengthening accountability within the pharmacy team. Strategic Support and Stakeholder Collaboration: Support pharmacy leadership in implementing strategic initiatives, service expansion plans, and operational transformation priorities. Serve as a key operational link between the Head of Pharmacy and frontline pharmacy teams, ensuring alignment, communication, and execution. Collaborate with clinical departments, nursing, procurement, finance, quality, and operations teams to improve pharmacy service integration. Qualifications Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), or equivalent pharmacy qualification from a recognised institution. Current registration and licence to practise as a Pharmacist with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria or other applicable professional regulatory body. Postgraduate qualification or professional certification in Clinical Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy, Pharmacy Management, Healthcare Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline is highly desirable. Training or certification in medication safety, quality improvement, antimicrobial stewardship, pharmacovigilance, or healthcare risk management is desirable. Strong knowledge of hospital pharmacy practice, medication governance, inventory control, controlled medicines management, and applicable regulatory requirements. Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive pharmacy experience, with significant exposure to hospital pharmacy operations and leadership. Demonstrated experience managing pharmacy services across inpatient, outpatient, and specialised care environments. Proven experience supervising and developing pharmacy teams, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, interns, and support staff. Strong track record in medication safety, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, inventory management, and pharmacy service optimisation. Experience working in a tertiary, specialist, or international hospital environment is highly desirable. Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR), pharmacy information systems, inventory management systems, and standard Microsoft Office tools. Job Purpose The Oncology Pharmacy Technician will support the Clinical Pharmacist (Oncology) in the safe, efficient, and aseptic preparation of cancer therapies at AMCE. The role holder will be responsible for the technical aspects of chemotherapy dispensing, inventory management of hazardous drugs, and maintaining compliance with international safety standards for cytotoxic handling. Working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, this role is critical to ensuring that oncology patients receive accurate, sterile, and timely medications. Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities Aseptic Compounding and Dispensing Prepare chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and biologic agents under strict aseptic conditions using vertical flow hoods and closed-system transfer devices (CSTDs). Perform final accuracy checks on prepared doses (drug, diluent, dose volume, and patient identity) prior to verification by a pharmacist. Label and package oncology medications in compliance with hazardous drug handling standards. Maintain competency in non-hazardous and hazardous sterile compounding techniques. Clinical Collaboration and Patient Care Manage the procurement, receipt, and storage of all oncology pharmaceuticals, including investigational drugs. Monitor stock levels of high-cost and critical cancer therapies to prevent shortages and wastage. Conduct daily temperature monitoring and environmental checks for refrigerators and freezers storing biologics. Coordinate with suppliers to manage consignment stock and just-in-time ordering for expensive agents. Medication Safety and Compliance Adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols for handling hazardous drugs. Participate in daily cleanliness and decontamination of the sterile preparation area. Assist in documenting and reporting near misses, compounding errors, or equipment malfunctions. Support the Clinical Pharmacist in audits related to hazardous drug handling and aseptic technique competency. Clinical Support and Documentation Obtain and verify patient-specific information (e.g., allergies, body surface area, renal function) to support the pharmacist's clinical check. Maintain accurate records of batch numbers, expiry dates, and compounding logs for traceability. Assist with medication reconciliation by obtaining accurate home medication lists from patients/caregivers. Manage the workflow of the oncology pharmacy satellite to minimize patient wait times for dispensed medications. Technology and Automation Operate oncology-specific pharmacy information systems for order entry and labelling. Utilize barcode scanning technology to verify drugs and patients during the dispensing process. Support the implementation of dose-banding protocols to optimize workflow. Qualifications Diploma degree in Pharmacy Technology / Pharmaceutical Sciences from an accredited institution. Valid technician license or registration with the relevant pharmacy council. Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Pharmacy Technician, with at least 1 year in an oncology or sterile compounding setting. Certification in Aseptic Techniques / IV Chemotherapy Compounding.
