Job Summary
Operational availability for Pharmaceutical duties: minimum 8hrs/day (40hrs/wk), emergencies, and minimum 3hrs Saturdays / Public Holidays, under the Pharmacist's supervision.
The position works in tandem with other professionals of the Division for effective provision of services and looks up to the hierarchy for direction on policy matters.
The position reports directly to the Manager Pharmacy Services while supervising the Pharmacy Technician and other Locum Pharmacists.
Environmental difficulties can arise from unrealistic/unreasonable expectations and demands.
Compliance with rules of relevant Regulatory Authorities.
Responsibilities
Dispensing of drugs, documentation and monitoring of drug usage for effective re-stocking.
Giving advice and drug counseling to the Patients.
Carrying out periodic stock-taking of drugs and materials for accountability.
Informing Doctors of available drugs and prescription patterns.
Estimating the quantity and value of drug purchases.
Following up on ordered drugs and reception of supplied drugs and materials.
Documenting the reception and issuance of drugs and materials in the stock management software.
Ensuring the security of the Pharmacy.
Work closely with medical and nursing staff on the wards to ensure patients receive the most appropriate treatments, advising on the selection of medicines as well as dose and route of administration for patients.
Improve medication use and optimize medication-related outcomes
Managing medication shortages by liaising with PHC pharmacy and using imprest funds for emergency situations
Prescription monitoring, intervention and medicine reconciliation
Reporting adverse effects of medication and pharmacovigilance
Training and Supervision of Interns and Industrial Trainees
