Role Purpose

  • This role reports to the maintenance supervisor and will effectively perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on property, plant and equipment to achieve overall efficiency and effectiveness.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Plant Maintenance

  • Process, plan, implement and control, review and adjust a maintenance schedule for assigned jobs.
  • Preventive and condition-based maintenance of machines as per laid down instructions and procedures to ensure smooth running
  • Trouble shooting Mechanical equipment and machine failures by inspection and testing and prescribing corrective action and reinstating it back to its working condition
  • Ensure efficient machine operations during shift cover
  • Initiating purchase requisition for machine spare parts for maintenance
  • Identify and report all assets misuse (e.g. machines, spares, tools, etc.)
  • Machine modification, improvement and innovation to improve efficiency
  • Maintenance checks on building structure and facilities
  • Basic maintenance of plant utilities (Generators, Compressors etc.)
  • Support maintenance of building, facility and machines at the Central Support Office
  • Any other assigned duties by the supervisor

Maintenance Reporting

  • Inspection of machines operations and recording of accurate data such as pressures, temperatures etc. to ascertain smooth operation or service requirements.
  • Logging details of work performed on data records to enable further action, planning for next service and storage as history.
  • Capturing correct and accurate data i.e. task details and time taken on job cards.

Communication & Accountability

  • Improve on process accountability through F2F discussions
  • Ensure effective communication
  • Participate in conflict resolution. Escalate chronic issues that require urgent attention

Continual Improvement Initiatives

  • Support PaTaMu, CI, ERM and 6K, initiatives and objectives
  • Offer support and training to AM team members
  • Continually generate improvement ideas and actively participate in CI projects.
  • Improve operational efficiencies through PaTaMu
  • Identify process challenges & use PDCA to address bottlenecks.
  • Support activities around Unga's culture code - FIRST.

Safety Health and Environment (SHE) & Food Safety

  • Support SHE and GMP/FSMS initiatives and objectives in the department.
  • Identify and report all quality and food safety issues during daily operations.
  • Participate in the planned workplace safety trainings
  • Ensure adherence and compliance to safety requirements

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • BSc Mechanical Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance, mechanical installations, welding and fabrication
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a busy manufacturing company
  • Competent in troubleshooting, problem solving, team building, planning and decision making
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
