Description

Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Fitting, Assembly & Installation

  • Fit, assemble and install mechanical components, machinery and equipment in accordance with technical drawings and specifications.
  • Carry out alignment, adjustment and replacement of mechanical components using appropriate tools and measuring instruments.
  • Perform authorised cutting, grinding, welding and basic fabrication activities as required.
  • Support installation, modification and commissioning of machinery and plant equipment.

Maintenance & Equipment Repair

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on plant machinery and equipment.
  • Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Replace defective components and restore equipment to operating condition within approved standards.
  • Support breakdown response activities and equipment recovery efforts.

Equipment Inspection & Condition Monitoring

  • Conduct routine equipment inspections and report abnormalities promptly.
  • Check equipment condition, component alignment, fastening and lubrication requirements.
  • Support condition-monitoring and equipment-care activities.

Safety, Health, Environment & Compliance

  • Comply with HSEQ requirements, Permit-to-Work and LOTOTO procedures.
  • Use prescribed PPE and maintain safe working practices at all times.
  • Report hazards, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Maintain housekeeping and workplace organisation standards in line with 6S requirements.

Maintenance Documentation & Communication

  • Complete job cards, maintenance reports and inspection records accurately and on time.
  • Communicate equipment condition, work progress and unresolved issues to the Mechanical Technician.
  • Collaborate effectively with Production, Maintenance and Engineering teams to support operational requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in TPM, 6S, Kaizen and maintenance improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute practical ideas that improve equipment reliability, safety and operational efficiency.
  • Support implementation of approved maintenance improvement actions.

Requirements

Minimum RequirementsQualifications

  • KCSE Certificate.
  • Government Trade Test Grade III in Mechanical Fitting or equivalent Mechanical Fitter qualification.

Added Advantage

  • Craft Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or Plant Maintenance.
  • Training in welding and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Knowledge of 6S and Autonomous Maintenance.
  • Experience in the steel, manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.

Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years' relevant experience in mechanical fitting, plant maintenance or industrial equipment repair.
  • At least two (2) years' experience maintaining industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or steel-processing environment will be an added advantage.

Supervise fitters, technicians, welders, fabricators and contractors to ensure productivity, workmanship and adequate manpower availability. Manage equipment installation, alignment, fabrication, modification, commissioning and improvement projects. Coordinate with Production, Electrical, Procurement, Stores and HSE teams to support uninterrupted plant operations. Support shutdown planning, execution and equipment start-up. Ensure strict compliance with LOTO, Permit-to-Work, hot-work, confined-space and other plant safety requirements. Monitor maintenance costs and identify opportunities for improved maintenance efficiency. Drive improvement in MTBF, MTTR, plant uptime and equipment reliability. Prepare maintenance KPIs, downtime analysis, maintenance reports and continuous improvement plans. Requirements Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution; OR Diploma in Mechanical Engineering supported by strong relevant plant maintenance and equipment reliability experience. 5 - 8+ years' relevant mechanical maintenance experience within a process plant environment. Supervisory or managerial maintenance experience is preferred. Experience within Animal Feed, Solvent Extraction, Oilseed Processing, Edible Oil or similar process manufacturing environments will be a strong advantage. Candidates should meet applicable Kenyan professional registration requirements where required. Technical Competencies Candidates should demonstrate strong hands-on knowledge of: Rotating equipment.
