Job Description

  • We are seeking a versatile, strategic, and results-oriented executive to serve as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of a Microfinance Bank. The MD/CEO will provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Bank, driving the delivery of accessible, responsible, and technology-enabled financial services to micro, small and medium-sized businesses, entrepreneurs, and individuals within its licensed area.The role is responsible for driving sustainable growth in deposits, quality lending, customer acquisition, revenue, and profitability, while maintaining strong credit discipline, effective financial and operational controls, regulatory compliance, sound corporate governance, and the overall financial stability and long-term sustainability of the Bank.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Translate the Board's strategy into annual business plans, budgets and functional targets.
  • Lead the execution of the Bank's strategic and operational objectives.
  • Monitor business performance and take corrective action where required.
  • Drive innovation and the effective use of technology across the Bank.

Business Growth and Financial Performance

  • Drive deposit mobilization, customer acquisition, lending and revenue growth.
  • Ensure effective management of costs, profitability and financial resources.
  • Monitor the Bank's financial and operational performance against approved targets.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers, businesses and stakeholders.

Regulatory and Risk Governance

  • Maintain effective relationships with the Central Bank of Nigeria, NDIC and other relevant regulators.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, prudential guidelines and internal policies.
  • Ensure adequate capital, liquidity and other prudential requirements are maintained.
  • Provide leadership in managing credit, operational, liquidity and other material risks.

Executive and People Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate the executive management team and Heads of Function.
  • Chair Management Committee and ALCO meetings as required.
  • Promote a strong culture of integrity, customer service, accountability and effective internal control.
  • Develop management capability and succession plans for key positions.

Board and Stakeholder Reporting

  • Provide accurate and timely reports to the Board and its committees.
  • Implement Board decisions and provide regular updates on business performance and material risks.
  • Represent the Bank before regulators, customers, investors and other key stakeholders

Requirements

  • MBA, MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
  • Relevant professional certification such as CIBN, ACA, ACCA or CFA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years' post-qualification experience in banking or financial services.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in senior management within a Bank or Microfinance Bank.
  • Experience in digital banking or fintech is strongly preferred.
  • Must satisfy applicable CBN Approved Persons' Regime and fit-and-proper requirements.
