Education, Skills and Experience

Must have:

  • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized Academic Institution.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a similar role.
  • Must be registered by the Pharmacy & Poisons Board.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Preparing laboratories, equipment, apparatus, reagents and other materials for practical classes, demonstrations, examinations and research activities.
  • Providing technical support to lecturers and students during practical sessions and demonstrating the proper use and handling of laboratory equipment.
  • Setting up and conducting practical experiments in accordance with approved procedures and laboratory manuals.
  • Operating, maintaining, calibrating and carrying out routine checks on laboratory equipment and reporting faults for repair and servicing.
  • Preparing, labelling, storing and handling chemicals, reagents, specimens, samples and other laboratory materials.
  • Maintaining adequate stocks and accurate records of laboratory equipment, chemicals, reagents, consumables and other supplies.
  • Providing technical support to academic staff, postgraduate students and researchers undertaking laboratory-based teaching and research activities.
  • Ensuring compliance with laboratory safety, health and environmental requirements, including proper use of protective equipment and safe disposal of laboratory waste.
  • Maintaining laboratory cleanliness, orderliness and proper organisation, and ensuring that facilities are ready for use.
  • Maintaining laboratory records, including equipment usage, maintenance, calibration, practical sessions, experiments and research activities.
  • Supporting laboratory inspections, audits and quality assurance activities.
  • Performing any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Knowledge of laboratory quality management systems, including Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, laboratory safety, chemical waste management, and risk assessment. Experience in preparing laboratory reagents, supervising practical classes, managing laboratory inventories, and maintaining laboratory records.
