The Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist will provide specialist obstetric and gynaecological care, ensuring safe, evidence-based, and high-quality management of women across the reproductive life cycle.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of patients, including the management of routine and high-risk pregnancies and gynaecological conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive antenatal, obstetric, and gynaecological assessments.
Provide expert management of normal and high-risk pregnancies.
Manage obstetric emergencies, including postpartum haemorrhage, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, obstructed labour, and other maternal emergencies.
Perform and supervise obstetric and gynaecological procedures, including Caesarean sections and other relevant surgical interventions.
Provide comprehensive management of gynaecological conditions, including menstrual disorders, fibroids, infertility, endometriosis, pelvic infections, and menopausal conditions.
Provide intrapartum care and make appropriate decisions regarding induction of labour, assisted vaginal delivery, and operative delivery.
Provide postnatal care and manage maternal complications following delivery.
Provide appropriate contraceptive counselling and family-planning services.
Collaborate with Paediatricians, Anaesthesiologists, Midwives, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Supervise, mentor, and support junior doctors, medical officers, and other clinical staff.
Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement programmes, and patient-safety initiatives.
Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely clinical documentation and medical records.
Ensure compliance with professional, ethical, and regulatory standards.
Keep abreast of current developments, clinical guidelines, and best practices in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Participate in clinical teaching, research, and continuous professional development.
Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental protocols and clinical pathways.
Participate in on-call duties and departmental rosters as required.
Education & Experience
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
Full registration and valid practising licence with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Fellowship in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (FMCOG, FWACS, or equivalent recognized qualification).
Minimum 3 years' post-fellowship experienceas a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist.
Demonstrable experience managing routine and high-risk pregnancies and complex obstetric and gynaecological cases.
Proven experience in obstetric and gynaecological surgery, including Caesarean section and management of obstetric emergencies.
Strong clinical judgement, communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
Experience in clinical audit, quality improvement, teaching, and research is desirable.
Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining a high standard of patient-centred care.
