Role Description

  • This is a full-time, on-site Accountant role located in Lagos. The Accountant will manage daily financial operations, including preparing financial reports, maintaining accurate financial records, and overseeing budgeting activities. They will ensure compliance with regulatory standards, prepare tax submissions, and assist in audits. The role will also include managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling financial discrepancies, and supporting the implementation of financial policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting, bookkeeping, and general ledger practices
  • Experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and preparing financial reports
  • Familiarity with tax regulations, compliance, and audit processes
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (professional certifications such as ACA, ACCA or CPA are a plus)
  • Possession of an ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor Certification will be an added advantage
  • Experience in the oil and gas or engineering sector is an added advantage

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, in line with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Manage project accounting activities, including tracking project costs, monitoring expenses, and ensuring accurate allocation of costs to specific projects.
  • Prepare and issue client invoices in accordance with contractual agreements and approved project milestones.
  • Monitor project budgets and expenditures, ensuring alignment with approved financial plans and reporting any variances to Management.
  • Reconcile bank statements and financial accounts regularly, investigating and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Process vendor and contractor payments, ensuring all supporting documents are properly reviewed and approved.
  • Maintain accurate records of mobilization, logistics, and operational expenses related to projects.
  • Ensure timely computation and remittance of statutory deductions, including VAT, Withholding Tax (WHT), PAYE, and Pension contributions, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial projections, and monitor actual financial performance against approved budgets.
  • Maintain proper documentation of financial transactions and ensure readiness for internal and external audits.
  • Provide financial analysis and reports to support project performance monitoring and management decision-making.
  • Liaise with banks, auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Implement and maintain effective internal financial controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Collaborate with procurement, project teams, and other departments to ensure proper financial planning and cost control across projects.
  • Continuously review financial processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
