MAIN FUNCTIONS

  • Interpret and Integrate geological data and provide well-site geological support for drilling wells in oil fields. This Includes delivering optimized horizontal well bore placement, final well reports, updated horizontal well cross-sections, maps and formation evaluation logs for recent and previously drilled wells. Provide geological support for interdisciplinary reservoir study and field development plans. Develop and mentor less experience staff.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of the Wellsite Geologist is supervision of all well site geological personnel and operations (e.g. mudlogging, Logging While Drilling (LWD), Wireline services, core handling/processing) and quality assurance of all geological data acquisition and reporting.

  • Wellsite Geological Services:
  • Geological monitoring.
  • Monitoring and supervision of wireline and LWD logging operations.
  • Monitoring of coring operation.
  • Monitoring and supervision of mudlogging operations.
  • Reporting responsibilities.
  • Auditing geological services when appropriate.
  • Well Completion Report Compilation and Distribution
  • Coordination of Wellsite Geological Activities ("Operations Geologist"): Coordinate, monitor, and administer Company operated wellsite geotechnical activities.
  • Pre-drill planning.
  • Point of contact for third party geological services vendors.
  • Monitor and coordinate wellsite geologic data acquisition and analysis activities; disseminate information to stakeholders; participate in regular teleconferences and meetings; review/verify invoices for geological services.
  • Post-drill responsibilities include coordinating shipments of samples, logs, and reports as well as completing special/ad-hoc projects.
  • Abnormal Pressure Surveillance
  • Ensure all abnormal pressure parameters are monitored, captured on a pressure evaluation log, and reviewed with Company Operations Geologist and Drilling Supervisors as required
  • Generate and distribute detailed reports compiling parameters, observations, and interpretation

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS/MS in Geology from a recognized institution
  • Experience as a Wellsite Geologist
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English, have good organizational and coordination skills, and be able to work well with others.
  • Offshore experience including platform/deviated well drilling with associated technologies (e.g. LWD, WL).
  • Must be in good physical condition and shall comply with all project health and safety requirements (including any rig or country-specific certifications required to work offshore).
  • Have successfully passed a recognized (OPITO) course in Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET), Sea Survival, and H2S within the previous two years. Certifications must be current and not due to expire for the anticipated duration of the project.
  • Experience with mud logging; cuttings description; real-time image logs; and correlating them to determine lithology and well path.
  • Experience with directional drilling, well planning, depth control measurements; and understanding of BHA's (Bottom Hole Assembly).
  • Experience with coring operations.
  • Experience of working in integrated asset team environment.
  • Experience in applying structural geology concepts and methods to assess compartmentalization/communication.
  • Experience of having worked with geologic modelers to incorporate maps and their interpretations into 3D geologic models.

Job Summary This Scope of Work defines the requirements for the provision of Senior Well Site Geologist (WSG) services to support offshore drilling operations and post-well reporting. The selected vendor will provide experienced personnel to supervise geological operations, ensure data quality, and support communication between the wellsite and office teams. Tasks & Responsibilities Wellsite Responsibilities: A Senior Well Site Geologist shall: Supervise and quality control all geological operations at the wellsite. Oversee and validate sample descriptions of cuttings and cavings. Act as the primary liaison between the wellsite and office-based teams, ensuring timely and accurate communication. Supervise and quality control all data acquisition activities, including mud logging and LWD/MWD, wireline, and coring services. Monitor ROV feeds during riserless drilling for shallow flow indicators or adverse conditions. Ensure all geological and data acquisition contractors perform to expected standards. Conduct wellsite log correlation and assist in determining casing points and total depth (TD). Evaluate and interpret geological data, including cuttings and offset well data. Communicate geological hazards and upcoming section/well TD to the wellsite team. Ensure daily upload of all geological data, reports, and logs. Oversee onboarding and technical competency assessments of new WSG and Mud Logging personnel. Ensure training and development plans for WSGs meet regulatory and operator requirements. Intermediate skills in qualitative geomechanics (inclusive of LOT/FIT analysis), real time pore pressure monitoring and pressure surveillance would be beneficial but not required Prior experience with MPD and ERD be beneficial but not required Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills across offshore and shore base teams Proficiency in Petrel software Pre-Drill and Office-Based Support: Coordinate and prepare pre-drill data repositories and supporting documentation. Schedule and Availability: Personnel must be available to work rotational offshore and remote operations schedules (typically 3 - 4 weeks per hitch). Must be capable of working day and night shifts on a remote offshore facility and remote operations room. Vendor must ensure availability of qualified personnel to meet operational timelines. Vendor Responsibilities: Coordinate scheduling, logistics, and interface with the ExxonMobil Operations team. Provide proof of experience, education, safety training, and drug testing for all geologists prior to deployment. Maintain adequate bench strength and succession planning to ensure uninterrupted coverage over the duration of the contract. Ensure all personnel meet offshore certification and fitness requirements prior to mobilization. Deliverables Daily geological reports and data distribution. Open hole activity geohazard roadmaps Cuttings and cavings reports to inform on wellbore conditions. Final well reports for each hole section and the entire well. Post-well composite log and well data book. Documentation of lessons learned, including third-party contributions. Requirements Personnel Requirements: Minimum of 10 yrs experience in wellsite and operations geology, with a strong background in deepwater Nigeria would be beneficial Post-secondary degree in geology or a related field.
