About the Role

  • Ensure mechanical maintenance and repairs through fabrication and welding are done on plant equipment according to maintenance schedules to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Ensure prompt completion and quality of the execution of welding jobs.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the maintenance and well-being of all burning/welding equipment.
  • Ensure quality welding repairs on plant equipment as per maintenance scheduling and using job plans.
  • Monitor the time requirements for each welding job and the optimal manpower and skills necessary for executing jobs.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping is done at all times in the welding workshop.
  • Ensure that proper welding safety measures are being adhered to at all times by all welding shop personnel.
  • Responsible for scheduling inspection/audit of welding tools and machines (including safety welding accessories) and ensuring that they are in optimal condition for safe use.
  • Responsible for recording daily welding job activities.
  • Respond promptly to emergency welding repair needs.
  • Work with planning in the development of job planning
  • Ensure required items such as chutes, cones, etc., are made from sketches and drawings provided by superiors from the draughtsman
  • Specify work procedures, if required
  • Monitor and control overtime of subordinates
  • Ensure safe storage and proper disposal of replaced spares
  • Comply with EMS Mechanical Instrumentation job functions
  • Ensure involvement in the implementation and maintenance of the integrated management system in the plant

Requirements

  • Educational Qualification: Degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering, technical college diploma, city & guild
  • Experience: 3-5 years' hands-on experience in a process industry, hands-on experience with the welding shop equipment

Required skills:

  • Knowledge of work and safety rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of relevant welding shop equipment

Verify that NDT equipment is suitable, calibrated and fit for use before commencing examination. Interpretation & Evaluation: Interpret NDT results in accordance with approved procedures, acceptance criteria and applicable standards. Evaluate indications against relevant acceptance/rejection criteria. Identify defective or non-conforming welds and components. Recommend repair, re-examination or further investigation where required. Ensure that only qualified and acceptable components proceed to the next stage of fabrication. Documentation & Reporting: Prepare accurate NDT reports, examination records and inspection documentation. Maintain traceability of weld numbers, welder identification, material identification, test locations and NDT results. Ensure all NDT results are properly documented and submitted for QC/client review. Maintain confidentiality and integrity of inspection records. Quality Control & Fabrication Support: Work closely with Welding Inspectors, QC Inspectors, Welding Engineers, Fabrication Supervisors and Project Engineers. Participate in weld inspection and fabrication quality-control activities. Review fabrication drawings, weld maps, procedures and ITP requirements relevant to NDT activities. Job Description SPIE Global Services Energy is looking for Instrument Tubing Fitter to join its workforce on BONGA Offshore Project in Lagos Nigeria. Interpret and work from P&IDs, tubing hook-up drawings, instrument installation drawings, isometric drawings, layouts, and construction specifications. Install, route, support, and terminate instrument tubing for pressure, temperature, level, flow, control and other instrumentation systems. Carry out installation of stainless steel, copper, carbon steel and other specified tubing materials in accordance with project specifications. Fabricate tubing runs by accurately measuring, cutting, bending, forming and assembling tubing to suit approved drawings and site conditions. Install and connect tube fittings, compression fittings, ferrule fittings, bulkhead fittings, manifolds, valves, needle valves, check valves and associated accessories. Perform tubing installation between instruments, impulse lines, manifolds, process connection points, control valves and junction/interface points. Ensure correct tubing routing, including proper slope, accessibility, clearance, supports, separation and protection against mechanical damage. Install tubing supports, clamps, brackets and mounting accessories in accordance with approved drawings and engineering requirements. Ensure tubing is correctly identified using tag numbers, line numbers, service identification and instrument references. Carry out tubing installation for instrument air, process impulse, pneumatic control, hydraulic and other utility services as specified in the project scope. Conduct tubing preparation activities including deburring, cleaning, flushing and protection of tube ends before connection. Ensure all tubing connections are properly assembled and tightened using the correct tools, torque requirements and manufacturer's installation procedures. Carry out leak testing, pressure testing, pneumatic testing and/or hydrostatic testing of tubing systems as required by approved procedures. QHSE: Ensures HSE policy fulfilment during his activities Maintains a strong safety culture in line with Company HSE Requirements and Rules Ensures compliance with Operating Procedures & Guidelines with the asset to ensure Process Safety, Operational Safety and Plan Integrity Management System, including permit-to-work (PTW) procedures, SIMOPS, tool box talks, and job hazard analyses (JHA).
