Key Responsibilities & Expected Impact
Market Development
Map and prioritize untapped geographic markets across Nigeria, delivering a ranked opportunity pipeline within your first 60 days.
Develop entry strategies for new regions, including stakeholder mapping, channel selection, and initial outreach plans.
Build and manage a portfolio of accounts across B2B (SMEs and commercial), B2G (government agencies, public institutions, NGOs), and B2C (households and communities) segments.
Establish and maintain relationships with distribution partners, agents, community leaders, and institutional buyers that generate sustainable deal flow.
Deal Negotiation & Closure
Own the full commercial cycle: prospecting, qualification, proposal development, negotiation, and close.
Lead contract negotiations, balancing the company's margin requirements with terms that deliver genuine long-term value for clients.
Work directly with the Technical Sales Engineer on complex or large-ticket deals, with you owning the commercial relationship and the TSE supporting the technical case.
Consistently meet or exceed quarterly revenue targets across your combined personal book and team output.
Team Leadership
Recruit, onboard, and coach a small sales team to build capacity without creating dependency.
Set team targets, run pipeline reviews, and ensure each team member has a clear path to hitting their numbers.
Model the prospecting, negotiation, and closing behaviors you expect from your team.
Provide structured feedback and flag performance gaps early, working with HR on development plans where needed.
Reporting & Strategic Input
Maintain accurate CRM records and regularly deliver pipeline, forecast, and market intelligence reports to leadership.
Surface market insights that inform product positioning, pricing adjustments, and expansion priorities.
What We Are Looking For
Must-Have Competencies Nice to Have
Demonstrated ability to open new markets, evidence of building a pipeline from scratch in a territory with no prior presence.
Prior experience in the energy sector, especially solar and off-grid systems.
Proven track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals, not just warm leads handed to you.
Existing relationships within target sectors (construction, agriculture, hospitality,
NGOs, government procurement).
Ability to negotiate contracts with confidence, handling pricing pressure without unnecessary concessions.
Familiarity with CRM tools for pipeline tracking.
Experience coaching or mentoring others to hit sales targets, not just hitting them yourself.
Knowledge of off-grid project economics how to position ROI for clients with no prior energy spend history.
Comfort operating across multiple customer segments (commercial, institutional, consumer) simultaneously.
Experience working across multiple
Nigerian geopolitical zones.
Strong written and verbal communication, you can pitch to a community leader and a procurement officer in the same week.
Conversational proficiency in at least one regional Nigerian language.
Self-directed and disciplined with pipeline management; you know where every deal stands at any time.
Ability to build trust quickly in unfamiliar markets and communities.
Autonomy & Decision-Making
You operate with significant independence.
You decide how to structure your pipeline, which markets to prioritize, and how to approach individual negotiations, within agreed commercial
parameters.
Pricing deviations beyond a defined band require leadership sign-off, but deal structure, terms, and relationship strategy are yours to own. For team-related decisions, hiring, and performance management, you initiate and recommend; HR and leadership co-approve.
