Hse Systems And Assurance Lead, Ameta

CHEP

Gauteng, south-africa

full-time

As our new HSE Systems & Assurance Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in that transformation. This is a rare opportunity to influence HSE maturity at a regional level and shape the systems, frameworks and assurance strategies that support thousands of employees across Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the broader AMETA network. Why This Role is Different: This is not a traditional compliance, audit, or systems administration role. We're looking for someone who can design, simplify and embed effective management systems across a complex regional environment. Success in this role will come from your ability to create approaches that are practical, scalable, and genuinely adopted by operations. You'll help shape how we manage HSE risk across AMETA by strengthening management systems, building sustainable assurance capability and moving the organisation beyond measuring compliance activity towards understanding whether systems and critical controls are genuinely effective. This role will suit someone who enjoys challenging complexity, improving how things work and building long-term organisational capability rather than maintaining the status quo. What You'll Be Doing: Lead the ongoing evolution and simplification of the AMETA HSE Management System. Design and strengthen regional assurance frameworks, methodologies, and governance processes. Develop assurance programs that focus on critical controls, risk effectiveness, and system health. Build organisational capability in assurance, verification and governance practices. Partner with operational leaders to translate global standards into locally relevant, practical solutions. Leverage data, insights, and trends to support continuous improvement and strategic decision-making. Drive consistency across diverse geographies while balancing local operational needs. Support the long-term maturity of HSE systems, governance, and organisational capability across AMETA. What Will Make You Successful: We're interested in leaders who can demonstrate: Experience designing, simplifying or transforming management systems, governance frameworks, or assurance programs. A track record of building capability and embedding sustainable ways of working, rather than simply maintaining established programs. The ability to assess whether systems and critical controls are genuinely effective, not just compliant. Strong business partnering skills and credibility working with senior operational and Supply Chain leaders. Experience influencing across complex, multi-site or multinational organisations. The capability to translate complex requirements into practical, proportionate solutions that work in operational environments. Strong systems thinking, curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset. Experience within industries with mature governance, assurance or risk-management practices such as mining, aviation, energy, manufacturing, logistics or major hazards environments. Location Flexibility: This regional position can be based in: Australia New Zealand South Africa Regional travel will be required from time to time. Qualifications: Please note: Candidates based in South Africa must hold a completed Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent qualification) to be considered due to local employment requirements. This requirement does not apply to candidates applying from Australia or New Zealand.
