Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled, safety-conscious, and responsible Substation Operator to support our operations in Sabon Wuse. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring, operating, and maintaining substation equipment to ensure reliable power supply, safe operations, and compliance with electrical safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and operate substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, isolators, and switchgear.
Conduct routine inspections of electrical installations and substation equipment.
Monitor voltage, current, load conditions, and other electrical parameters.
Identify and report electrical faults, abnormalities, and equipment defects.
Assist with switching operations in accordance with approved procedures and authorization.
Maintain accurate records of equipment readings, inspections, switching activities, and operational incidents.
Ensure compliance with electrical safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and lockout/tagout requirements.
Monitor the condition of transformers, batteries, protection systems, and other substation components.
Coordinate with electrical technicians and maintenance personnel during repairs and maintenance activities.
Ensure the substation environment is clean, secure, and free from unauthorized access.
Respond promptly to electrical emergencies and report incidents to the appropriate supervisor.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Electrical Supervisor or Management.
Qualifications and Experience
OND, HND, or B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
2–5 years' relevant experience in electrical operations, preferably in substations, power distribution, or industrial facilities.
Good knowledge of transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and electrical protection systems.
Understanding of electrical safety procedures and substation operating practices.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and equipment specifications.
Strong observation, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work shifts and respond to operational emergencies.
Relevant electrical safety training or certifications will be an added advantage.
Location Requirement:
The position is based in Sabon Wuse, Niger State, Nigeria.
Candidates must either be resident in Sabon Wuse or surrounding areas, or be willing and available to relocate to the location.
