Job Description

  • Hyundai Automotive South Africa is looking for a Specialist: Technician I.T Support who will provide responsive desktop and operational IT support to Hyundai users, helping maintain reliable business applications, minimize downtime and improve service quality and turnaround times. Resolve routine technical issues within approved procedures and escalate complex incidents to senior IT staff or the appropriate service provider.

Key Responsibilities

End-user and Desktop Support

  • Receive, record, prioritise and troubleshoot user support requests; maintain clear records of actions taken, resolutions and outstanding issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve routine desktop, laptop, software, printer, scanner, email and connectivity problems.
  • Provide respectful, helpful support and keep users informed of progress, service disruptions and expected next steps.
  • Escalate unresolved, recurring or business-critical issues promptly, providing diagnostic information and details of troubleshooting already completed.

Application and Connectivity Support

  • Assist with the installation, setup, configuration and testing of approved applications and networked computer software.
  • Support everyday use of business applications, office productivity tools, email and internet browsers.
  • Perform basic wired and wireless connectivity checks and assist senior staff with network troubleshooting within assigned permissions.
  • Verify that equipment and applications operate correctly after support work and confirm resolution with the user.

Maintenance and Vendor Assistance

  • Assist with scheduled preventative maintenance and coordinate assigned support activities with approved vendors under senior IT guidance.
  • Supply relevant technical information to vendor first-line support teams and follow up on outstanding support actions.
  • Identify recurring application, infrastructure or data-quality concerns and refer improvement suggestions to the relevant senior specialist.

Procedures, Reporting and Efficiency

  • Follow IT standard operating procedures, service guidelines and approved authorisation processes.
  • Document common fixes and contribute practical improvements to support procedures and the team knowledge base.
  • Report support activity, recurring faults and unresolved issues to enable timely operational decisions.
  • Use time, equipment and consumables responsibly; avoid unnecessary delays and expenditure and obtain approval before purchases or changes outside delegated authority.

Teamwork and Development

  • Work constructively with colleagues, users and service providers and uphold company values.
  • Participate in training, knowledge-sharing discussions and hands-on learning to improve technical capability and service quality.
  • Provide users with basic guidance on supported applications and good day-to-day IT practices.

Qualifications and Experience

Junior-level entry requirements:

  • A relevant IT qualification, such as an IT support certificate, diploma or degree, or equivalent practical training.
  • Foundational hands-on desktop or IT support experience gained through employment, an internship or structured practical training; one to two years in a similar environment is advantageous.
  • A Bachelor of Computing is advantageous rather than a mandatory requirement for this proposed junior role.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • IT systems: Understand the basic functions and configurations of desktop equipment, operating systems and supported applications.
  • Troubleshooting ability: Gather information, assess impact, test routine solutions and recognise when specialist intervention is required.
  • Applied IT knowledge: Install approved software, perform basic configuration and connectivity checks, and record test results.
  • IT support: Understand user needs, follow a structured support process and communicate resolutions clearly.
  • Computer literacy: Use word processing, spreadsheets, email, calendars, presentations, browsers, printers and scanners confidently.
  • Organisational excellence: Understand how service quality, efficient use of resources and reduced disruption support business operations.
  • Technical learning: Seek guidance when needed, learn from experienced colleagues and apply newly acquired skills.

Behavioural Competencies

  • Client Focus: Respond courteously and with appropriate urgency; keep users informed and seek feedback.
  • Improvement Orientation: Suggest practical service improvements and actively develop skills.
  • Judgement: Make sound decisions on routine issues and escalate matters beyond competence or authority.
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness: Listen carefully, communicate clearly and collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Planning and Organising: Prioritise tasks according to impact and urgency and monitor progress against agreed schedules.
  • Personal Courage: Raise concerns and ask for assistance openly and respectfully.
  • Results Orientation: Take ownership of assigned work and complete tasks to the required standard.
  • Persistence and Tenacity: Remain focused through interruptions and setbacks and respond constructively to feedback.

Scope and Accountability

  • Work under guidance from senior IT staff while independently handling routine, authorised support tasks. This is not a supervisory, infrastructure-design or software-development role.
  • Complex network changes, data warehouse improvements and programming requirements appearing in the generic source profiles should remain with senior specialists unless explicitly assigned as supervised development work.
