Overview

• Under the direct supervision of the Protection Manager, the Protection Officer (Woman's Welfare and Empowerment Social Worker) will facilitate, through a mobile approach, self-reporting, referencing and management of cases of VBG and other cases of protection, including their referral to appropriate services.
• She will be responsible for the implementation of individual and group psychosocial activities for the benefit of women and girls. It will work closely with the RRM team and community actors for the prevention and response to cases of GBV, and will develop and maintain relationships with humanitarian partners and local authorities to facilitate access to basic services

Area intervention:

• The Protection Officer (Social Worker Protection and Empowerment of Women) will be based in Diffa with frequent travel throughout the coverage area of the Program as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

The Protection Officer (Social Worker Protection and Empowerment of Women) will ensure the following responsibilities:

Implementation of activities:

• Plan and ensure the management of cases of VBG and refer them, as required, to the appropriate services; refer the cases of PE and PBS identified to the competent services/actors; strengthen the capacities of community/humanitarian actors (CPV, OCB, NGO) to promote ethical and secure referencing
• Provide training, coaching and follow-up to APS (psychosocial support) subgroups from grassroots community organizations (CBOs);
• Conduct structured group discussions with women as part of the "Women Rise" approach in the areas of intervention, and document their implementation through a periodic report to the Protection Manager
• Ensure the implementation and monitoring of the emergency component of the Girl Shine approach with adolescent girls;
• Provide training for community leaders, grassroots community organizations on the fundamental concepts of GBV as well as basic psychosocial support
• Ensure the collection and updating of records and transmission of data for storage in the GBVIMS within the period indicated;
• Ensure at all times the respect of the confidentiality of the identified cases of protection and ensure its application from time to time at the entire level;
• Support Community leaders on the identification and referencing of GBV survivors, MOU cases in accordance with the guiding principles;
• Contribute to the development/updating of information on the support services of available GBV and their dissemination;
• Carry out the mapping of existing service providers on deployment areas and, through focus group, provide an update on existing services and their accessibility for target communities;
• Work with child protection teams to facilitate internal referencing and coordination;
• Conduct monthly discussions with women and girls on the risks identified within the community, in line with the goals of safe space.
• Develop, with women and girls, on the basis of identified risks, a risk mitigation plan that integrates the role of the community, including the Basic Community Organizations (CBOs), which plays a key role in the implementation of the Protection programme, and ensure regular monitoring of its implementation;
• Contribute, on a quarterly basis, to the analysis of GBVIMS data trends and share an analysis report with the Protection Manager;

Reporting and Coordination:

• Submit weekly and monthly activities to the supervisor on time, on time, on the basis of reports and planning;
• Contribute to the drafting of reports to be submitted to donors;
• Attend all meetings and forums for monitoring and internal coordination of activities;
• Participate in relevant meetings, working groups or coordination forums

Other functions:

• Ensure that all activities are in place in accordance with the IRC's operational and security policies.
• Comply with IRC security procedures and report to the knowledge of security information to ensure a safe and secure environment for program implementation.
• Other additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Profile and skills sought

• Be of Nigerien nationality;
• Being female;
• Know the humanitarian context of Diffa or have worked or resided for at least 1 year;
• Mandatory mastery of local languages in particular of the department of Diffa (Kanouri, Haoussa, Peulh, Toubou, Arabic);
• Higher or equivalent Degree in Law, Psychology, Social Sciences, Health or related disciplines, required;
• 2 - 3 years of minimum professional experience in the field of case management of gender-based violence, child protection (psychosocial support, follow-up and referencing) and/or be a training psychologist with sufficient field experience would be an asset;
• Mastering minimum standards for gender-based violence;
• Expertise in the women's protection sector, Community-based protection
• Experience working within an NGO and humanitarian;
• Experience in case management;
• Experience in supporting and training community-based agents and organizations in a formal and informal manner;
• Experience working with international or local NGOs will be an asset
