You will supervise and coordinate all shift operations across our ammonia plant, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient production while leading a team of operators, senior operators, and field technicians.
Location: Nigeria (Niger Delta region Port Harcourt / Eleme / Bonny / Onne axis, or designated plant site)
Work Pattern: Rotating shifts (days/nights) on a defined roster cycle
Environment: Central Control Room (CCR), field operations, and plant process areas
- Direct and supervise shift operations of the ammonia synthesis plant, including reforming, synthesis gas compression, ammonia synthesis loop, and utility systems
- Lead plant start-up, shutdown, emergency shutdown (ESD), and trip recovery activities in compliance with operating procedures
- Coordinate with the Central Control Room (CCR), Field Operators, Maintenance, and HSE teams to execute daily production plans and Permit to Work (PTW) activities
- Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), production rates, energy consumption, catalyst performance, and plant availability
- Conduct shift handovers, toolbox talks, and shift performance reviews
- Enforce strict compliance with HSE standards, Process Safety Management (PSM), and statutory requirements (NUPRC, NMDPRA, SON)
- Mentor, coach, and develop junior operators; drive capacity building within the shift team
- Investigate operational deviations, near-misses, and incidents; implement corrective and preventive actions
- Optimize steam methane reforming (SMR), gas purification, and ammonia synthesis converter performance to maximize yield and efficiency
Qualification & Requirement
- B.Eng./B.Sc. or HND in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related discipline
- 6-10 years of hands-on operations experience in ammonia, urea, or syngas plants, with at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity
- Proven ammonia plant operations experience, synthesis loop, reformer, compressors (centrifugal/reciprocating), and cryogenic purification system
- Strong working knowledge of DCS platforms (Yokogawa CENTUM, Honeywell Experion, or Emerson DeltaV), SIS, and ESD systems
- Experience with HAZOP, risk assessment, and incident investigation methodologies
- Valid right to work in Nigeria; prior experience in Niger Delta or Nigerian fertilizer/petrochemical complexes is an advantage
- Added Advantage: NEBOSH IGC, PSM certification, or OEM training (e.g., KBR, Haldor Topsoe, ThyssenKrupp/Uhde process familiarity)
