ABOUT THE ROLE

  • We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and results-oriented Senior Software Engineer to join our technology team in Abuja.
  • The ideal candidate will have 6 - 10 years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a strong understanding of modern software development practices and experience working across multiple programming languages, frameworks, and technology environments.
  • We are looking for a professional who can design, develop, implement, optimise, and maintain robust software applications while contributing to technical decisions and engineering excellence.
  • The successful candidate must be comfortable working across different layers of software development, including backend development, frontend development, database management, API development, system integration, and application deployment.
  • We value practical engineering experience, problem-solving ability, technical ownership, and the capacity to deliver reliable software solutions that address real business needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Software Development

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications.
  • Write clean, efficient, reusable, and maintainable code.
  • Develop new application features and enhance existing systems.
  • Translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex software issues.

Backend and Frontend Development

  • Develop and maintain backend application services and frontend interfaces.
  • Work with different programming languages, frameworks, and development tools.
  • Build responsive, user-friendly, and efficient application interfaces.
  • Develop reliable business logic and application functionality.
  • Ensure seamless integration between frontend and backend systems.

Software Architecture and System Design

  • Participate in designing scalable and reliable software architectures.
  • Apply appropriate software engineering principles and design patterns.
  • Evaluate existing systems and recommend improvements.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and architectural decisions.

API Development and System Integration

  • Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs.
  • Integrate applications with third-party platforms and services.
  • Ensure secure, reliable, and efficient communication between systems.

Database Management

  • Design, implement, and maintain database structures.
  • Work with relational and NoSQL database technologies.
  • Optimise database queries and application performance.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and reliability.

Testing and Quality Assurance

  • Conduct unit, integration, and functional testing.
  • Participate in code reviews and enforce coding standards.
  • Identify and resolve software defects.
  • Promote software quality, reliability, and maintainability.

Deployment and Application Maintenance

  • Participate in application deployment and production support.
  • Work with Git and modern development workflows.
  • Contribute to CI/CD processes and deployment automation.
  • Monitor application performance and resolve production issues.

Collaboration and Technical Leadership

  • Work collaboratively with developers, product teams, and business stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other developers.
  • Participate in technical planning and problem-solving sessions.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and ensure timely delivery.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 - 10 years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong practical experience developing and maintaining production-grade applications.
  • Experience working with multiple programming languages, frameworks, and technologies.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles and design patterns.
  • Experience with backend and frontend application development.
  • Good knowledge of database design and management.
  • Practical experience in API development and system integration.
  • Understanding of software testing, debugging, and optimisation.
  • Experience with Git and collaborative development tools.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Experience in some combination of the following technologies is desirable:
  • Programming Languages: Java, Python, PHP, C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, or other modern programming languages.
  • Frontend Technologies: React, Angular, Vue.js, HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Backend Frameworks: Spring Boot, Django, FastAPI, Laravel, ASP.NET Core, Express.js, or equivalent.
  • Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, or equivalent.
  • Cloud and Infrastructure: AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Docker, and related technologies.
  • Development Tools: Git, GitHub, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development tools.
  • Architecture and Integration: REST APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and scalable application design.
  • Candidates are not expected to be experts in every technology listed. We are particularly interested in candidates with strong expertise in relevant technologies, sound engineering fundamentals, and the ability to adapt to different technology environments.
