THE OPPORTUNITY

Taghini Foods Limited is a vertically integrated poultry business operating breeder, hatchery, commercial broiler and processing facilities from a single production platform. We are seeking a Senior Resident Flock Veterinarian to provide field-level technical leadership across the whole of that chain.

This is the technical bridge between our Junior Veterinarians and the Lead Veterinarian - Poultry Operations. The holder carries real authority: over clinical standards, over the veterinary quality of what is done on our farms every day, and over the professional development of the veterinarians coming behind them. It is a role for a veterinarian who wants the decisions to be theirs.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Technical Leadership and Supervision

  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership and supervision to Junior Veterinarians across breeder, hatchery and commercial broiler operations.
  • Translate veterinary strategy, protocols and standards into disciplined field execution, and verify, on the ground, that execution has in fact occurred.
  • Mentor and develop Junior Veterinarians in clinical reasoning, flock-health management and professional practice.

Flock Health, Surveillance and Diagnostics

  • Monitor flock health, mortality, morbidity, growth, uniformity and vaccination response against defined performance benchmarks, and interrogate deviation the moment it appears.
  • Lead disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, differential diagnosis and corrective intervention.
  • Design and oversee sampling strategies, laboratory investigations and the interpretation of diagnostic results.
  • Apply veterinary epidemiology, biostatistics and risk analysis to flock-health investigation and decision-making.
  • Identify emerging disease and operational risk early and escalate it promptly to the Lead Veterinarian - Poultry Operations. The judgement to distinguish the routine from the urgent, and the resolve to raise the latter without delay, is central to this appointment.

Standards, Compliance and Food Safety

  • Monitor vaccination programmes, biosecurity, antimicrobial use, treatment protocols and withdrawal-period compliance.
  • Provide veterinary public health and food safety support across the production chain, including HACCP, GMP and GHP application and antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Support veterinary SOP development, technical audit and the standardisation of veterinary practice across all farms.

Performance, Data and Continuous Improvement

  • Review veterinary reports, analyse flock-health data, and convert findings into actionable recommendations with named owners and dated deliverables.
  • Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of veterinary CAPA and prevent the recurrence of identified problems.
  • Support breeder health, fertility, egg quality, hatchability and chick-quality improvement.
  • Collaborate with Farm Operations, Hatchery, Abattoir, QA/QC, Feed Mill, Procurement and Stores.

WHAT YOU MUST BRING

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or an equivalent recognised veterinary qualification.
  • Current registration and licence to practise with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN).
  • Evidence of National Youth Service Corps discharge, exemption or exclusion.
  • A minimum of five years' relevant post-qualification experience, preferably in intensive commercial poultry production.
  • Strong practical experience in commercial broiler and breeder operations.
  • Demonstrable command of poultry medicine, flock-health management, vaccination, biosecurity and disease investigation.
  • Strong working knowledge of veterinary epidemiology, together with sound diagnostic, analytical, reporting and data-interpretation skills.
  • Working understanding of HACCP, GMP, GHP, veterinary public health, food safety and antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Demonstrable experience supervising, coaching or developing junior veterinary professionals.

Advantageous

  • Hatchery experience.
  • Postgraduate training in poultry health, epidemiology, veterinary public health, food safety or a related discipline.

THE VETERINARIAN WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Technically strong, scientifically rigorous, field-oriented and professionally assertive. Someone who identifies a problem early, investigates it objectively, assesses the risk honestly, recommends soundly, and then ensures the recommendation is actually implemented.

We are looking for the professional judgement to tell a routine matter from one requiring immediate senior escalation, and the character to escalate it the same day. In this business, a veterinarian who sees and does not speak has not done the job.

WHAT WE OFFER

A substantive technical leadership role within a growing, vertically integrated poultry business, with real scope to influence flock health, production performance, veterinary standards and the development of the next generation of poultry veterinarians.
