Job Description

The Senior Registered Nurse leads daily nursing care and supports the development of the nursing team at Hydrate Lagos.

The role provides safe, compassionate care from the patient’s first assessment through treatment and follow-up, supports the medical team, administers prescribed treatments, monitors patients and keeps accurate records.

Hydrate Lagos is a physician-guided preventive health and wellness clinic.

The nursing team delivers the day-to-day care that turns each physician’s plan into a safe, consistent patient experience.

The post therefore contributes directly to the clinic’s aim of helping patients understand their health and receive personalised care, supported by clinical assessment and appropriate follow-up.

Key Responsibilities Patient assessment and preparation:

Welcome patients, confirm their identity and record relevant medical history, allergies, current medicines and vital signs.

Prepare patients for consultations, treatments and diagnostic procedures. Explain the nursing process, check that required consent is documented and refer clinical questions to the treating physician.

Flag abnormal observations, possible contraindications and changes in a patient’s condition before treatment begins.

Treatment and patient monitoring:

Insert and manage peripheral IV cannulas, administer prescribed infusions and injections, and use infusion equipment safely, following approved orders and protocols.

Check the prescription, patient, medicine, dose, route, expiry and required storage conditions before administration. Clarify incomplete or unclear orders before proceeding.

Monitor patients before, during and after treatment; document observations and promptly escalate adverse reactions or deterioration.

Support physician-led weight management and hormone care through prescribed treatment, patient education and follow-up.

Diagnostics and emergency support:

Collect and label specimens, maintain accurate identification and arrange timely handover to the laboratory, where trained and authorised.

Assist with ECGs, screening checks and other diagnostic procedures within your competence. Prepare patients and support clinicians during examinations.

Recognise emergencies, call for medical assistance, provide basic life support within training and assist with stabilisation and transfer under the clinic’s emergency protocol.

Patient education and follow-up

Explain aftercare, prescribed treatment instructions and warning signs using clear, respectful language. Check that patients understand what to do next.

Coordinate follow-up appointments and check-ins, record patient concerns and refer treatment decisions and interpretation of diagnostic results to the physician.

Safety and clinical records:

Follow infection prevention procedures, safe sharps handling, waste segregation and equipment cleaning requirements.

Keep complete, timely records in the electronic medical record, including assessments, medicines administered, observations, incidents and handovers.

Protect patient privacy and use only approved systems for clinical records and patient communication.

Check treatment supplies, stock levels, expiry dates, medicine storage and emergency equipment; report shortages or faults promptly.

Teamwork and service quality:

Work closely with physicians, laboratory staff and administrative colleagues to coordinate appointments and patient care.

Coordinate daily nursing assignments, treatment readiness and handovers; raise staffing or workload concerns with the Medical Director.

Mentor and supervise nurses and support staff within their assigned duties. Assess training needs, support induction and help verify practical competencies before duties are delegated.

Act as the first nursing escalation point for care concerns, while promptly referring medical decisions and urgent clinical issues to the supervising physician.

Lead nursing participation in clinical audits, incident reviews and improvements to approved care procedures; monitor completion of corrective actions.

Undertake other reasonable nursing duties consistent with your competence and professional scope.

Requirements and Competencies Essential qualifications and experience:

A bachelor’s degree in Nursing

Registered Nurse qualification and a current practising licence from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

At least five years of post-qualification nursing experience, including experience supervising or mentoring nursing colleagues, preferably in outpatient care, a private clinic, day care or a comparable clinical setting.

Demonstrated competence in IV cannulation, infusion administration, patient monitoring and recognition of adverse reactions.

Current Basic Life Support certification and the ability to respond calmly to clinical emergencies.

Clear communication, sound clinical judgement, accurate documentation and confidence using electronic medical records.

A respectful approach to patients and a strong commitment to confidentiality, teamwork and ethical practice.
