As a Senior Operator, you will serve as the technical anchor in the control room and field, operating, monitoring, and optimizing the ammonia plant while supporting the Shift Supervisor in maintaining safe and efficient operations.
Location: Nigeria (Niger Delta region Port Harcourt / Eleme / Bonny / Onne axis, or designated plant site)
Work Pattern: Rotating shifts (days/nights) on a defined roster cycle
Environment: Central Control Room (CCR), field operations, and plant process areas
- Operate and monitor the ammonia plant via DCS console, managing process variables across reforming, shift conversion, CO2 removal, methanation, and synthesis sections
- Execute start-ups, shutdowns, rate changes, and emergency responses under the direction of the Shift Supervisor
- Perform first-line troubleshooting of process upsets, equipment malfunctions, and control system alarms
- Coordinate field operations, verify field readings, and validate instrument performance
- Maintain accurate shift logs, production reports, and operations records
- Support catalyst handling awareness, equipment isolation, and line-breaking activities under PTW
- Train and mentor junior operators and DCS trainees
- Drive energy efficiency, steam balance optimization, and emissions reduction initiatives
Qualifications and Requirements
- HND / B.Sc. in Chemical, Process, or related engineering discipline
- 6 - 10 years of hands-on operations experience, with significant exposure to ammonia or syngas plant operations
- Hands-on expertise with DCS console operations, ammonia synthesis fundamentals, and process safety systems (SIS/ESD)
- Strong understanding of steam systems, gas turbines, centrifugal compressors, and refrigeration units (as applicable)
- Excellent communication, situation awareness, and decision-making under pressure
- Added Advantage: Experience with urea plants, familiarity with Nigerian regulatory environment, and OEM process training
