We are seeking to appoint a competent, experienced, and highly organised School Bursar to oversee the school's financial operations and ensure effective financial management, accountability, and compliance.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the school's day to day financial activities, maintaining accurate financial records, monitoring income and expenditure, and providing reliable financial information to management for decision making.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the school's daily financial operations, including receipts, payments, banking, and cash management.
Maintain accurate and up to date financial records and documentation.
Prepare periodic financial reports, budgets, cash flow statements, and financial summaries for management.
Monitor school fees collection, outstanding balances, and other sources of revenue.
Ensure timely reconciliation of bank accounts, cashbooks, and other financial records.
Process payments and ensure proper authorisation and supporting documentation for all expenditures.
Maintain proper records of staff payroll, statutory deductions, and other financial obligations in collaboration with the relevant personnel.
Monitor expenditure against approved budgets and highlight significant variances to management.
Ensure compliance with applicable financial, tax, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain proper documentation for audit purposes and support internal and external audits when required
Liaise with banks, vendors, parents, and other relevant stakeholders on financial matters.
Establish and maintain appropriate financial controls to safeguard the school's funds and assets.
Provide financial advice and insights to management when required.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
Professional accounting qualification such as ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent will be an advantage.
Minimum of 5 years' relevant accounting or financial management experience, preferably within a school or educational institution.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and reconciliation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
Excellent numerical, analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
High level of integrity, confidentiality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school management and other departments.
