Key Duties & Responsibilities
Provide quality antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal nursing care.
Monitor mothers throughout pregnancy, labour, delivery, and postnatal period.
Conduct nursing assessments and develop care plans.
Identify highrisk pregnancies and escalate cases for medical review.
Assist in normal deliveries and support emergency obstetric interventions.Newborn Care
Provide immediate newborn assessment and essential care.
Monitor newborn growth and wellbeing.
Promote exclusive breastfeeding and educate mothers.
Identify neonatal complications and facilitate timely referrals.Family Planning & Health Education
Provide family planning counselling and services.
Educate families on maternal nutrition, birth preparedness, breastfeeding, immunization, and postnatal care.
Promote safe motherhood and reproductive health practices.Clinical Care
Administer prescribed medications and treatments safely.
Monitor patients’ vital signs and document observations.
Maintain complete and accurate patient records.
Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary care.Infection Prevention & Control
Adhere to infection prevention protocols.
Maintain a clean and safe clinical environment.
Ensure proper handling and disposal of medical waste.
Observe universal precautions at all times.Emergency Response
Respond promptly to obstetric and neonatal emergencies.
Initiate emergency interventions within scope.
Coordinate referrals for specialized care.Quality Assurance
Ensure compliance with nursing and midwifery standards.
Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and maternal death reviews.
Report incidents and adverse events per institutional procedures.Collaboration & Teamwork
Work collaboratively with doctors, clinical officers, nutritionists, and (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({});other providers.
Participate in departmental meetings, CME, and staff training.
Mentor junior staff and nursing students.Other Duties
Participate in outreach maternal and child health activities.
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma in KRCHN, Nursing (Midwifery), or equivalent from a recognized institution.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in maternity, labour, and delivery unit.
Experience in maternal and newborn care in a busy facility preferred.Statutory & Professional Requirements
Statutory & Professional Requirements
Valid registration with Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
Valid NCK Practising Licence.
Valid BLS certification; EmONC training an added advantage.
Compliance with Ministry of Health and NCK regulations.Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
