Profile Description
TerraWorks Industries is seeking a diligent and analytical Risk and Compliance Officer to identify, assess, and mitigate business and operational risks while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, industry standards, and company policies. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of risk management, internal controls, compliance monitoring, and audit processes, with excellent attention to detail, integrity, and problem-solving skills. The role will support the company in strengthening controls, reducing risk exposure, and promoting a strong culture of compliance and accountability.
Job Purpose
The Risk & Compliance Officer is responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating operational, financial, regulatory, and compliance risks across TerraWorks Industries. The role ensures that company operations, manufacturing processes, policies, and controls comply with applicable laws, industry standards, and internal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Identify and assess operational, financial, regulatory, safety, and reputational risks across the business.
Develop and maintain the company's risk register and monitor key risk indicators.
Conduct regular risk assessments across manufacturing, engineering, procurement, warehouse, finance, and administrative functions.
Develop, review, and implement compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Monitor compliance with applicable Ugandan laws, regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
Conduct compliance reviews, audits, and investigations and recommend corrective actions.
Monitor adherence to procurement, financial, inventory, quality, safety, and operational controls.
Work with department heads to identify control weaknesses and implement appropriate risk mitigation measures.
Support business continuity, emergency preparedness, and crisis management planning.
Investigate incidents, control breaches, suspected misconduct, and compliance violations.
Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, risk assessments, investigations, and corrective actions.
Prepare regular risk and compliance reports for management.
Follow up on audit findings and ensure agreed corrective actions are implemented within established timelines.
Provide guidance and training to employees on risk management, compliance requirements, policies, and ethical standards.
Monitor changes in legislation and regulatory requirements and advise management on their potential impact.
Collaborate with the Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, Finance, HR, Procurement, and Operations teams to strengthen organizational controls.
Promote a culture of accountability, ethical conduct, risk awareness, and regulatory compliance throughout the organization.
Support internal and external audits and provide requested documentation and information.
Recommend improvements to systems and processes to reduce operational and compliance risks.
