Job Objectives

  • The Research Officer will lead projects, supervise tasks, and as well deliver on tasks that will collaborate efforts of the Research team.
  • (S)he will work with little or no supervision and deliver results within agreed timelines, and, most importantly, the post-holder will be part of the team of problem solvers, focused on generating results that have the most significant impacts.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead projects from start to finish
  • Carry out comprehensive literature search from a wide range of databases
  • Prepare interview guides, design survey instruments, administer surveys, and conduct interviews
  • Collect facts and statistics and other types of information from various sources
  • Carry out in-depth analyses of data using SPSS and Stata
  • Conduct data summarization with the aid of Tableau
  • Prepare documents and presentations in PowerPoint and Excel
  • Generate reports and other publication types from studies
  • Take a lead role in the delivery of research projects and policy and advocacy engagements (events, sessions, programmes, etc.)
  • Liaise with the client's members' research units and partners/external parties on projects, programmes and other deliverables.
  • Observe and comply with the research code of ethics and best practices in the delivery of tasks
  • Proofread all documents and reports and perform data validation and quality control for every single task
  • Document data and procedures for each research project or task completed
  • Perform any other tasks that may be assigned by the line manager

  • Performs other duties other duties as may be assigned by the Head, Research Team

Requirements

  • The research officer must have adequate knowledge of the financial and professional services sector and will be responsible for sourcing, analyzing, interpreting and presenting different types of data and generating research outputs such as reports, policy briefs, discussion papers, etc.

Essential experience & qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in any social science or business discipline
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in research or consulting; or experience in a monitoring and evaluation, economics, financial or business analysis/analytics position.
  • Excellent written and presentation abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Exceptional leadership and teamwork skills
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in statistical data analysis packages, including SPSS, Stata and Tableau
  • Proficiency in Excel for data management and PowerPoint for presentation.

  • Capable of presenting findings in well-written and articulated styles
  • A person that pays adequate attention to details and can organize, follow through on assignments with little or no supervision

  • A person of good character that upholds the research code of ethics and best practice
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously and able to work within tight schedules and close deadlines
  • Resourceful, professional and capable of anticipating and filling a need
  • Be agile to respond to urgent requests.
