The Strengthening Investments in Gender-Responsive Climate Adaptation (SIGRA) Project is a Government of Canada-funded initiative that aims to improve the resilience of Ghanaian citizens through increased investments in inclusive and gender-responsive climate adaptation initiatives. SIGRA is implemented by Cowater International and supports climate action and inclusive governance in Ghana. It seeks to promote transparency, accountability, and inclusion, and to foster collaboration between women-led civil society organizations (CSOs) and all levels of government in the planning and execution of local climate adaptation investments. Our approach first involves providing technical assistance (TA) and support to strengthen governance and national systems in key institutions within the Ghanaian Public Administration while providing direct grants to five (5) Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Northern and Volta regions to fund local gender-responsive climate adaptation projects. Second, SIGRA supports regional government stakeholders in the Northern and Volta regions and strengthens the ability of targeted districts to plan, implement, and report on climate adaptation initiatives. Thirdly, the project partners with Ghanaian women led CSOs to strengthen the participation, voice, and influence of women in government decision-making.
In this context, and to support project implementation and close out activities, SIGRA is recruiting a Regional Development Officer based in Ho in the Volta region.
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Under the supervision of the Team Leader, the Regional Development Officer (RDO) will be responsible for supporting SIGRA's work at the sub-national level, i.e., at the RCC and MMDA levels. Specifically, in collaboration with the SIGRA team, the selected candidate will be responsible for coordinating day-to-day project activities with key officials at the RCC and MMDA levels and overseeing project close out activities. The role will facilitate the capacity building of key stakeholders to effectively implement, close out and report on gender-responsive climate adaptation initiatives funded by the project via sub-grants to MMDAs. The role will be responsible for implementing strategies and recording results to promote gender-responsive climate adaptation planning and investment within the Regional Coordination Councils (RCC) and SIGRA targeted MMDAs. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including government bodies, local businesses, Women-led CSOs, community-based organizations, and local communities, to contribute to sustainable development toward advancing specific local climate adaptation projects. This will also include supporting and working with local CSOs on engaging MMDAs to ensure sufficient community participation in planning and reporting on local climate adaption initiatives. The role will typically involve a mix of office-based work, field visits, and meetings with stakeholders within and outside the region. Regular travel will be required within the region of assignment and to Accra as necessary.
