The Quality Controller is responsible for verifying that incoming raw and packaging materials, in-process products, and finished goods comply with defined quality, food safety, HO&S, and applicable regulatory requirements.
The role supports stable extrusion operations by conducting inspections, sampling, process checks, analytical measurements, hygiene verification, documentation, and timely reporting of deviations for corrective action.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Quality Control Management:
Conduct control at reception for the incoming materials (raw & packaging materials)
Control and validate the raw materials pre-treatment process according to established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Conduct inline inspections and quality checks for in-process products during extrusion operations.
Perform regular sampling on the product in process and finished products.
Prepare samples for analysis according to established sampling plan
Ensure proper cleaning, handling, and storage of materials and finished products.
Ensure staff hygiene during operations complies with Good Hygiene Practices (GHP).
Monitor temperature, pressure, and humidity in all process areas and warehouses.
Ensure Good Housekeeping (GHK) across all operational areas
On-line analysis:
Perform process analytical measurement:
In-process and finished product moisture analysis
In-process and finished product density analysis
In-process water and steam analysis
In-process and finished product particle size analysis
Analyze measurement data, verify that test results meet required specifications, and ensure appropriate corrections and corrective actions are implemented when deviations occur.
Perform routine calibration, verification, and basic maintenance on measurement devices
Identify equipment malfunctions and report them for corrective action.
Cooperate with production teams to improve the process quality and productivity
Food Safety Management System:
Monitoring CCPs, OPRPs and quality parameters during production.
Record, analyse, and report quality inspection results and nonconformities.
Initiate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for quality deviations.
Support internal and external audits, inspections, and certifications.
Verify cleanliness, hygiene practices, and sanitation programs within the production area.
Ensure proper documentation and traceability of quality records.
Participate in food safety training and continuous improvement initiatives.
Perform sensory evaluation of the product in process and finished products
Conduct waste ratio evaluation and segregation according to standard operation procedures (SOPs)
Conduct cleaning validation of production equipment and ensure implementation of 5S at workstations.
Cooperate with production teams to improve product quality and reduce waste.
Requirements
Education degree - HND or Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field.
Work experience - Minimum of 3 years of experience in food manufacturing or extruded pet food production. Good understanding of food safety and quality management systems.
Language skills - English.
Computer skills - MS Word, MS Excel & Outlook
