The Quality Control Officer is responsible for conducting routine quality control activities for sesame across the operation, at either the Kano or Sagamu location as assigned. The role performs routine sampling and testing, records quality results accurately, supports inspection of incoming and cleaned sesame, monitors adherence to specifications and SOPs, maintains traceability and sample retention, supports shipment release and documentation, and identifies and reports non-conforming material, in support of the Assistant QC Manager / QC Manager and the wider quality function.

Job Details

Routine Sampling and Testing

  • Perform routine sampling of incoming, in-process and cleaned sesame lots in line with approved sampling plans.
  • Conduct routine quality testing (e.g., moisture, foreign matter, purity, admixture, infestation) using approved methods and equipment.

Quality Results Recording

  • Record quality/test results accurately and promptly in laboratory logs and quality records.
  • Ensure results are legible, complete and correctly cross-referenced to the relevant lot or sample.

Inspection Support for Incoming and Cleaned Sesame

  • Support inspection of incoming raw sesame and cleaned/processed sesame, assisting with visual and physical checks.
  • Assist the QC Supervisor / Assistant QC Manager / QC Manager in verifying lot condition prior to acceptance or release.

Specification and SOP Adherence Monitoring

  • Monitor day-to-day adherence to approved quality specifications, SOPs and sampling/testing protocols.
  • Flag any deviations from SOPs or specifications observed during routine activities.

Traceability and Sample Retention

  • Maintain traceability of lots and samples from receipt through testing to release or rejection.
  • Retain and store samples in line with company procedures, ensuring proper labelling and accessibility for reference or audit.

Shipment Release and Documentation Support

  • Support final inspection and release documentation activities for export shipments, as directed.
  • Assist in compiling accurate quality data and certificates for shipment release.

Non-Conforming Material Identification and Reporting

  • Identify non-conforming material based on test results and inspection observations.
  • Promptly report non-conforming material and quality exceptions to the QC Supervisor, Assistant QC Manager or QC Manager, as applicable.

Requirements

  • HND/B.Sc. in Food Science, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Agriculture, or a related field. Relevant certification in laboratory practice or quality control is an advantage.
  • Basic training or familiarity with sesame/agro-commodity quality parameters and laboratory testing practices is desirable.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years' experience in quality control/laboratory operations, preferably within the agro-commodity or food processing sector. Prior exposure to sesame or similar agro-commodity quality testing is an advantage.
