About the role

Acts as a senior laboratory scientist, performing complex and specialised testing, guiding junior staff, and supporting quality and biosafety.

Responsibilities

• Act as a senior practitioner in the laboratory, performing complex/specialised laboratory testing and providing a clinical/technical resource to colleagues.
• Provide day-to-day guidance and checking of junior staff and trainees.
• Support biosafety compliance and quality assurance at section level.
• Contribute to audit, quality improvement and CPD.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of laboratory practice across disciplines.
• Ability to perform complex/specialised testing and guide junior staff.
• Sound understanding of quality control and biosafety.
• Equipment competence and fault identification.
• Effective communication and record-keeping.

Nice to have

Specialty training or certification relevant to the laboratory discipline.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of post-registration experience in medical laboratory science practice beyond entry level. Experience supporting and guiding junior medical laboratory science staff. Experience working within a multidisciplinary hospital team.

Education

Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) from a recognised institution. Completion of the required national internship and NYSC, or a valid exemption.
