Description
We are seeking a Payroll Accountant to manage and oversee the end-to-end payroll process while supporting financial accounting functions. The ideal candidate will bring over 5 years of experience, preferably from a Big 5 audit firm, and demonstrate high levels of integrity, confidentiality, and technical accounting expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Management
Process and manage monthly payroll processing for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with statutory requirements (PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, HELB, etc.)
Maintain up-to-date payroll records and ensure timely submission of statutory returns
Prepare and post payroll journals to the general ledger
Coordinate with HR on employee contracts, onboarding, exits, and benefits administration (e.g., medical insurance, pensions)
Handle payroll reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
Ensure compliance with Kenyan labor laws and internal policies
Financial Accounting Support
Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes
Support preparation of financial statements and audit schedules
Reconcile payroll-related accounts and assist in general ledger maintenance
Participate in budgeting and forecasting processes related to staff costs
Confidentiality & Compliance
Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and company information
Ensure adherence to internal controls and audit requirements
Support internal and external audits related to payroll and employee costs
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA (K), ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably with a Big 5 firm
Proven experience in payroll processing and financial accounting
Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Sage 300, Dynamics 365) and Excel
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability
