As we expand our technology capabilities, we are looking for a Mid-Level Backend Engineer to join our engineering team and help build reliable, scalable backend systems that support our growing product ecosystem.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced backend engineer with strong fundamentals in Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS, who takes ownership of building, testing, and maintaining backend services.
You will work closely with our engineering and product teams to design and develop APIs, manage data systems, and build services that support secure, reliable, and scalable digital infrastructure.
The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating an established codebase, solving complex technical problems, and contributing to sound engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS.
- Build and maintain reliable database systems, ensuring data integrity, performance, and efficient querying.
- Develop and maintain event-driven services and asynchronous processing workflows.
- Write and maintain automated tests to ensure code quality, reliability, and maintainability.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and technical issues across existing services.
- Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and other team members to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation, and engineering best practices.
- Work within an existing codebase to improve functionality, maintainability, and system performance.
Required Qualifications
- 3 to 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development.
- Strong proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript.
- Practical experience building backend applications using NestJS or similar frameworks.
- Solid SQL and relational database fundamentals.
- Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Familiarity with message queues, asynchronous processing, or event-driven architectures.
- Experience writing automated tests and maintaining code quality.
- Ability to navigate, understand, and contribute to large or established codebases.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently within a collaborative team.
Nice to Have
- Experience in fintech, payments, or financial services.
- Familiarity with Nigerian digital identity systems, tax infrastructure, or regulatory technology.
- Experience building systems that handle sensitive data or support secure digital transactions.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization.
