About the role

  • Manages and maintains health records accurately and confidentially, supporting clinical care, billing and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate, complete and confidential patient health records.
  • Manage records workflows including registration, retrieval, filing, coding and retention.
  • Ensure confidentiality and data protection in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act and internal policies.
  • Support clinical care, billing, managed-care and reporting through timely records provision.
  • Contribute to data quality, audit and service improvement.

Requirements

  • A recognised qualification in health information management / health records (e.g. BSc Health Information Management, HND/Diploma in Health Records).
  • Completion of any required internship/registration training and NYSC, or a valid exemption where applicable.
  • Minimum of 4 years of post-registration experience in health information/records management.
  • Post-registration experience in health records management practice.
  • Clinical/technical competence appropriate to the role, exercised with appropriate supervision.

Required skills:

  • Knowledge of health information management and records practice appropriate to the role.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
  • Competence in records systems, retrieval and clinical coding (where applicable).
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication with clinical and administrative colleagues.

Job Purpose The Medical Records Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility of patient medical records at the African Medical Center of Excellence (AMCE). This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a deep understanding of medical terminology and record-keeping protocols. Core Responsibilities Record Management Accurately and efficiently file, retrieve, and maintain patient medical records, both electronic and paper based. Ensure the completeness and accuracy of patient information in medical records. Prepare and assemble medical records for patient appointments, consultations, and other medical procedures. Maintain the confidentiality of all patient information following legal and ethical guidelines. Data Entry and Management Enter patient demographic and clinical data into electronic health records (EHR) systems. Maintain the accuracy and integrity of data within the EHR system. Release of Information Process requests for the release of medical information from patients, other healthcare providers, and authorized agencies.
