About the role

To provide clinical care in dentistry under appropriate supervision, managing patients across out-patient and in-patient settings with decreasing levels of supervision, and contributing to the safe and effective running of the dentistry service.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose and manage patients in dentistry with decreasing levels of supervision, appropriate to the level of the role, escalating appropriately.
• Participate in clinics, ward rounds, on-call rotas and procedures as required, contributing to audit and quality-improvement activities.
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and current MDCN registration/licence in line with internal clinical policy.
• Work effectively within the multidisciplinary team, coordinating care with other services and supporting managed-care/HMO processes through evidence-based, cost-effective practice.

Required skills

• Sound clinical knowledge relevant to dentistry and the ability to manage presentations appropriate to the role.
• Sound clinical record-keeping and competent use of hospital clinical systems.
• Effective communication with patients, families and colleagues.
• Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

Nice to have

Additional training relevant to the area of practice (e.g. life support, clinical skills, quality improvement).

Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of post-NYSC clinical experience, including time at Medical Officer I grade or equivalent. Post-registration clinical experience as a dental practitioner beyond entry level.
• Demonstrable clinical competence relevant to dentistry, managing patients with decreasing levels of supervision.

Education

• Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS or BChD) or an equivalent registrable dental qualification from a recognised institution.
• Completion of the required national housemanship/internship and NYSC, or a valid exemption where applicable.
