R30,000 - R35,000 About Job Role The Commercial & Marketing Manager is a senior management position responsible for strengthening company's commercial position, market presence, community relevance and long-term sustainability. The role requires a commercially minded, strategic and entrepreneurial individual who understands business, media and people, and who can translate the vision and mission of the company into practical opportunities, campaigns, projects, partnerships and initiatives. The Commercial & Marketing Manager is expected to see opportunities, develop ideas, make plans and mobilise people to turn those ideas into reality. This includes growing existing commercial initiatives, creating new concepts, building mutually beneficial relationships with businesses and organisations, and finding ways to place the company more firmly in the community and in the public conversation. The role extends beyond traditional marketing, advertising or fundraising. It focuses on creating value and growth across the organisation through commercial projects, strategic partnerships, campaigns, events, audience engagement and community initiatives. The Commercial & Marketing Manager forms part of the management team and works closely with the Station Manager/Content Manager, Integrated Marketing Specialist and Development & Partnership Manager, as well as other relevant teams. The role requires an integrated approach in which content, programming, marketing, commercial development, fundraising, partnerships, events and community engagement support and strengthen one another. This is not a siloed role. The successful candidate must be able to connect people, ideas, departments and opportunities, mobilise the appropriate teams and drive initiatives through to implementation. The ultimate objective is to help the company to grow, become more visible and relevant, strengthen its commercial sustainability and become a station that is seen, heard, experienced, and talked about. Key Responsibilities Commercial Strategy & Business Development Drive commercial growth strategies that support the long-term sustainability of the company. Work collaboratively with the Development & Partnership Manager on commercial and income-generating opportunities, ensuring that the respective roles complement one another. Drive the further development and scaling of established projects and other commercial initiatives of the station. Turn ideas and opportunities into commercially viable campaigns, projects and initiatives. Lead projects from concept and planning through to implementation, completion and evaluation. Look for ways to increase the commercial return, reach, participation and long-term potential of existing projects. Bring the appropriate internal teams and external partners together to make projects happen. Evaluate successful initiatives and explore opportunities to repeat, expand or scale them. Business Relationships, Networking & Partnerships Build strong relationships with business owners, executives, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and strategic stakeholders. Maintain an active business and community network that can support future opportunities. Represent the company at relevant networking events, business forums, conferences, and community engagements. Create opportunities for collaboration rather than simply selling advertising or requesting sponsorship. Develop mutually beneficial partnerships, joint campaigns, events, promotions, and community initiatives. Maintain and grow relationships with existing commercial partners. Represent the company professionally and act as an ambassador for its vision, mission and brand. Market Presence, Marketing & Audience Growth Strengthen the company's visibility, relevance and presence within the community and broader market. Work closely with the Station Manager/Content Manager and Integrated Marketing Specialist to align content, marketing, campaigns, promotions and commercial initiatives. Drive initiatives that increase awareness, listenership, audience engagement and interaction with the station beyond the traditional broadcast platform. Ensure that the company brand is consistently positioned across commercial, community, marketing and promotional activities. Leverage radio, digital, social media, events and community platforms to create greater reach, engagement and commercial value. Position the company as an active and relevant participant in the community - seen, heard, experienced and talked about. Integrated Management & Leadership Serve as a member of the company management team and contribute to the overall strategic direction of the organisation. Work closely with the Station Manager/Content Manager, Integrated Marketing Specialist and Development & Partnership Manager to ensure that the different areas of the organisation work towards common objectives. Ensure that commercial, marketing, content, programming, fundraising, partnership, event and community initiatives are considered from a whole-station perspective. Bring the appropriate people together around projects and ensure that responsibilities, objectives and timelines are clearly understood. Mobilise internal teams around strategic campaigns, projects and opportunities. Facilitate collaboration and communication between different functional areas. Encourage a culture of initiative, creativity, accountability and shared responsibility for the growth of the company. Participate actively in strategic planning, brainstorming and management discussions. Develop innovative packages and concepts that combine different station assets for commercial and strategic benefit. Encourage innovative thinking and an opportunity-driven culture across the organisation. Assess new ideas from both a commercial and strategic perspective and, where appropriate, turn them into practical projects.
