We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Machinist Location: No1, Akaka Road, Ode Remo - Ogun Employment Type: Full-time Industry: Automotive & Defence Manufacturing.

Position Overview

Proforce Defence is seeking a precision-driven, highly skilled Machinist to join our engineering and fabrication team at our manufacturing facility in Ode Remo, Ogun State.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual and computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools to fabricate, shape, and finish high-tolerance metal components, specialized vehicle parts, armor brackets, and custom mechanical sub-assemblies for tactical and armored vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Tool Operation: Set up, calibrate, and operate manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders, and CNC equipment to machine precision metal components.

Blueprint & Technical Schematic Execution: Interpret complex 2D engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) callouts, and machining process sheets.

Precision Metal Fabrication: Perform turning, facing, threading, boring, milling, and reaming operations on raw stock materials including structural steel, armor steel alloys, aluminum, brass, and composite plastics.

Precision Measurement & Quality Inspection: Measure and inspect machined parts during and post-production using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and dial indicators to ensure strict adherence to micro-inch tolerances.

CNC Programming & Adjustment: Load, edit, and adjust CNC G-code/M-code programs, selecting appropriate cutting speeds, feeds, tool paths, and coolant flows for different material densities.

Tooling & Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machine tools, replace worn cutting bits/inserts, manage coolant reservoirs, and troubleshoot operational machine faults.

Safety & Quality Compliance: Maintain a clean, organized work environment, adhering strictly to workshop safety protocols, machine guarding standards, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

Education: NABTEB, Trade Test Class 1, OND, or HND/B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Machining/Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical discipline.

Experience: 2–5 years of hands-on machining experience operating conventional and/or CNC machine tools within a manufacturing plant, automotive facility, toolroom, or heavy engineering machine shop.

Skills: High mathematical accuracy, spatial reasoning, manual dexterity, strong problem-solving skills, and a meticulous eye for detail.

Key Engineering & Technical Knowledge Requirements:

Machining Principles & Tool Geometry: Deep understanding of cutting tool materials (carbide, high-speed steel), rake angles, chip formation, feeds and speeds calculations, and surface finish metrics (Ra values).

Materials Science & Metallurgy: Solid knowledge of material machinability, hardness ratings (Rockwell/Brinell), heat treatment impacts, and thermal expansion properties of high-strength alloys and armored steel.

Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T): Mastery of GD&T symbols, reference datums, positional tolerances, and concentricity requirements in automotive engineering.

CNC Programming & CAM Integration: Practical understanding of G-code/M-code programming structure, work coordinate system (WCS) setup, and tool offset adjustments.

Quality Control & Dimensional Metrology: High proficiency in using precision measurement instruments, calibration standards, and first-piece inspection protocols.
