Job Summary

  • Our Client is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide legal support to our core oil and gas exploration and production operations in Lagos, Nigeria. Reporting to the General Manager, Legal, you will advise on transactions, ensure compliance, and manage litigation and external counsel.
  • This role requires deep expertise in Nigerian, UK, and US corporate law and a strong background in the oil and gas sector.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice on transaction structuring and oil and gas exploration and production operations, including exploration, development, production, community, land, and pilotage issues.
  • Advise on capital markets transactions, debt and equity financing, and lead negotiations.
  • Draft and review legal documents such as letters, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and memorandums.
  • Coordinate the smooth and efficient management of litigation and external legal counsel.
  • Monitor and manage compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Perform all other duties necessary and reasonably attached to this position and as assigned by the General Manager, Legal.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law or a Juris Doctor degree.
  • Nigerian Law School certification and membership of the Nigerian Bar Association.
  • At least 10 years' experience providing legal support to technical and operations teams in a producing oil & gas exploration & production company.
  • Strong experience in the oil and gas sector and working within the Nigerian legal system.
  • Excellent knowledge of corporate law in Nigeria, UK, and US.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Strong contracts management and administrative skills.
  • Competent in MS Office suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Law.
  • 2 years' prior experience in a law firm.
  • Indigenous exploration and production experience.

Litigation, Claims & Dispute Resolutions Lead the strategy and handling of active lawsuits, pre-litigation claims, regulatory claims, and regulatory inquiries. Proffer and implement legal, practicable and workable solutions to mitigate legal risks, disputes/public complaints while upholding the Company's legal position and reputation consistent with the values and ethics of Huaxin Group. Assist in obtaining necessary permits and requisite licenses to operate Plants at different locations; Review and advise on all Court Processes and Summons.
