Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Lead Mechanical / Thermal Engineer to be REPL's technical authority for the steam cycle, CFB boilers, turbine-generators, and balance of plant, from FEED through EPC award and financial close.
What you will do
Lead the mechanical and thermal FEED: design basis, plant configuration and heat and mass balances.
Build and maintain the plant performance model, including heat rate and output across the lignite quality range.
Define the design fuel envelope from lignite assays, working with the mine team on moisture, ash and sulphur.
Specify the CFB boilers, steam turbines, condensers, wet mechanical-draught cooling towers, polishing FGD, pumps and fans.
Specify lignite, limestone and ash handling, including the interface with the mine conveyor and the fly-ash link to the SEZ brick plant
Lead the water system with the hydrogeologist, including the borefield, reservoir, and treatment systems.
Write the mechanical parts of the EPC Employer's Requirements, lead technical bid evaluation, and set performance guarantees and test procedures.
Review the Owner's Engineer's work and support lenders' technical due diligence.
Coordinate interfaces with the mining, civil, electrical, and environmental teams, and build efficiency, emissions, water, and waste limits into the design.
What you need
B.Eng. or B.Sc. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
At least 12 years in thermal power, including 5 years or more in design, FEED, or Owner's Engineering on coal or solid-fuel plants of 100 MW or larger.
Hands-on use of heat-balance software (for example, Thermoflex or EBSILON) and working knowledge of ASME codes.
Proven ability to write technical specifications and coordinate several engineering disciplines.
COREN registration, or eligibility to register within three months of starting (international candidates: COREN temporary registration, which REPL will support).
Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
It will help if you have:
CFB boiler experience, especially on lignite or other high-moisture fuels.
Taking at least one power plant through design, construction and commissioning.
Working with Chinese EPC contractors or design institutes.
Performance testing and factory acceptance testing of boilers and turbines.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) status.
