Job Summary
We are developing a greenfield 600 MW (gross) lignite-fired mine-mouth power plant at Obomkpa, Aniocha North LGA, Delta State.
The plant has four 150 MW circulating fluidised bed (CFB) units, fuelled from the adjacent lignite mine.
The project is in front-end engineering design (FEED), with EPC procurement and financial close to follow.
We are looking for an experienced Lead Electrical & Grid Engineer to be REPL's technical authority for the plant's electrical systems, the 330 kV grid connection and the private 132 kV network that will supply the SEZ.
What you will do
Develop the electrical design basis, single-line diagrams and auxiliary-power load list.
Specify generators, generator step-up transformers, generator circuit breakers, MV and LV switchgear, DC/UPS and emergency and black-start supplies.
Lead the TCN grid-connection work, including the Grid Connection Agreement studies, and define the 330 kV switchyard and transmission-line requirements for connection to the existing national grid.
Design the private 132 kV SEZ network (330/132 kV transformers, 132 kV substation and feeders) and the 33 kV supply to the mine.
Plan how the plant and SEZ network run together: frequency and voltage control, load shedding and island operation if the grid link trips.
Set protection, revenue metering, SCADA and telecoms requirements to IEC standards and the Nigerian Grid Code.
Write the electrical parts of the EPC Employer's Requirements and lead technical bid evaluation.
Support the NERC licence, the Grid Connection Agreement and the SEZ supply contracts, and review the Owner's Engineer's electrical work.
What you need
B.Eng. or B.Sc. in Electrical or Electrical / Electronic Engineering.
At least 12 years in power generation or transmission, including 5 years or more in power-plant electrical design or grid connection on projects of 100 MW or larger.
Hands-on experience with 330 kV or 132 kV substations and with specifying generators and step-up transformers.
Working knowledge of ETAP, PSS/E or DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and of IEC standards.
Sound grasp of power-system protection, metering and grid-code compliance.
COREN registration, or eligibility to register within three months of starting (international candidates: COREN temporary registration, which REPL will support).
Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
Travel: Regular travel within Nigeria, including Abuja for TCN and NERC, and international travel for factory acceptance tests of transformers and switchgear
It will help if you have:
Direct experience of TCN connection applications and the Nigerian Grid Code.
IPP grid connection in Nigeria or West Africa.
Private-wire, embedded-generation or industrial-park networks, including island operation.
Generator testing and protection-relay setting.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) status.
Commercial understanding of PPAs and connection agreements.
