  • American Christian Academy is seeking a knowledgeable and hands-on Laboratory Assistant to support the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics teachers.
  • The ideal candidate should have a strong grasp of the sciences, gained through practical laboratory work. This role will involve supporting teachers with practical lessons, laboratory activities, and the day-to-day preparation and organization of science learning resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Biology, Chemistry, and Physics teachers with practical lessons and laboratory activities.
  • Prepare laboratory materials, equipment, and resources for classes and practical sessions.
  • Assist with setting up, conducting, and clearing practical activities.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment and materials are properly handled, stored, and maintained.
  • Support teachers in delivering engaging and well-organized practical science lessons.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and orderly laboratory environment.
  • Monitor laboratory supplies and report shortages, damaged equipment, or other concerns.
  • Carry out other duties related to laboratory and science department support as required.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Microbiology.
  • 1 - 3 years of relevant experience in teaching, laboratory work, or a related science role.
  • Strong knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, with particular strength in Physics.
  • Practical laboratory experience and confidence working with science equipment and materials.
  • Experience teaching at A-Level is an added advantage.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers and students.
  • Responsible, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious.
  • Must currently reside in Ibadan.

Professional Certification: Registration with a relevant national teaching council or regulatory body (such as TRCN) is highly preferred. Experience: 2 - 3 years of classroom and laboratory teaching experience at the secondary school level, with a documented history of strong student performance in external exams. Other Requirements Strong digital literacy, including the ability to utilize digital data loggers, interactive boards, and basic school management portals. High level of professional ethics, integrity, and absolute dedication to ensuring a safe learning environment. Willingness to collaborate with the Science Department, laboratory assistants, parents, and school administration. Key Skills: Subject Expertise: Advanced knowledge of core chemical principles, chemical equations, stoichiometry, and laboratory techniques. Safety Conscious: Strict adherence to laboratory safety standards, with the ability to manage risks and respond appropriately to emergencies. Analytical & Critical Thinking: Skill in guiding students through complex mathematical calculations in chemistry and scientific problem-solving. Instructional Clarity: The ability to break down abstract molecular concepts into relatable, easy-to-understand demonstrations. Organization: Strong management skills to balance classroom instruction, lab preparation, and grading. Salary N150,000 per month.
