Key Responsibilities
Oversee national legal services including client screening, advice, counseling, pleadings, court representation, and complaint handling.
Conduct legal research and represent clients in court, tribunals, highprofile matters, and public interest litigation.
Provide case assessments on land rights, labor/employment, succession, criminal defense, and civil disputes for marginalized persons.
Develop workflow systems, client feedback mechanisms, and M&E frameworks.
Coordinate mobile legal aid clinics and set professional quality/confidentiality standards.Programme Strategy, Partnerships & Resource Mobilisation
Develop workplans and budgets to expand probono networks and legal aid services.
Coordinate fundraising strategies, alternative revenue sources, and visibility campaigns.
Build networks with Judiciary, National Legal Aid Service, donors, and stakeholders.
Research public interest legal problems and develop systemic solutions.Volunteer Advocates Network
Develop work schedules and allocate cases to volunteer advocates.
Lead recruitment, induction, training, mentorship, and management of probono advocates.Legal Empowerment
Design and oversee legal literacy and awareness campaigns.
Run capacitybuilding programs for paralegals, justice centers, and alternative justice systems.Legal Advisory Services
Serve as senior legal advisor to the Executive Director, Board, and colleagues.
Advise on institutional, contractual, and employment legal risks.Team Supervision & People Management
Provide technical supervision for LAEP staff and regional legal officers.
Mentor and train junior legal staff, paralegals, interns, and volunteers.
Contribute to staff appraisals, (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({});capacity recommendations, and recruitment.Planning, Budgeting & Reporting
Develop and execute annual/quarterly work plans and manage budgets.
Review operations and provide impact reports to leadership and donors.Legal Research & Documentation
Conduct legal research on legislative changes and precedent.
Prepare legal documents, policy briefs, and maintain a legal resource library.Other Duties
Perform any other duties assigned by the Executive Director.QualificationsAcademic & Professional
Qualifications
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognized institution.
Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
Admission as Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with current practicing certificate.
Master’s degree in Law, Human Rights, or related field an added advantage.
Training in nonprofit leadership, programme management, or governance preferred.Experience
Minimum 7 years’ postqualification experience in legal practice.
5–6 years’ experience in programme coordination, budget oversight, and staff supervision.
Depth of knowledge in civil, criminal, public interest, and strategic litigation.
Experience managing legal aid or accesstojustice programs nationally.
