The Solar Solutions Engineer I is responsible for the technical pre-installation process for SunFi customers. The role covers customer energy assessment, system sizing, solar solution design, site-assessment review, technical recommendations, documentation and handover for execution.
The role ensures that proposed solutions are technically feasible, commercially appropriate, safe and aligned with SunFi's products, standards and customer requirements. The Solar Solutions Engineer I also supports technical clarifications and contributes to the continuous improvement of the solar design and delivery process.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate customer profiles, load requirements, energy goals, usage patterns and budget considerations to determine appropriate system configurations.
Develop and review solar PV, inverter and battery solutions, ensuring appropriate sizing, compatibility and operating margins.
Build and customise system packages that balance customer requirements, technical performance, reliability and commercial considerations.
Use SunFi's approved sizing and recommendation platforms for system sizing, solution recommendations, BOS generation and related design outputs, while validating results and escalating gaps or anomalies.
Coordinate site assessments with internal field teams and approved Associate Solar Installers (ASIs).
Review site assessment reports, photographs, videos, measurements and electrical information to identify missing or technically concerning information.
Identify technical constraints including shading, roof condition, installation area, electrical service capacity, cable routing, earthing, protection and equipment compatibility.
Prepare or review system specifications, equipment schedules, BOS requirements, cable and protection requirements, single-line diagrams and other technical documentation.
Ensure approved designs, system specifications, materials, assumptions and site constraints are properly documented and handed over to execution teams.
Interface with customers where required to explain system designs, technical requirements and operating expectations.
Work closely with Growth, Customer Success, Procurement, Technology and User Services to resolve technical dependencies.
Maintain oversight of ASI-related activities and documentation, including installations, decommissioning, payments, performance and outstanding actions.
Review technical deliverables and installation outcomes to identify design gaps and opportunities to improve quality and reduce rework.
Support the investigation of technical complaints, equipment issues and system-performance concerns.
Identify recurring operational gaps and contribute to improvements in tools, workflows, engineering standards and SOPs.
Maintain current knowledge of SunFi's products, inverter and battery technologies, installation practices, relevant standards and developments in the solar industry.
Maintain accurate sizing outputs, technical notes, trackers and reports, providing timely updates on pending work, risks, bottlenecks and technical escalations.

Qualifications & Experience
BSc/HND in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering or a related field.
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in solar design, technical operations, energy systems or a related engineering function.
Practical experience in solar system design and solution development.
Good working knowledge of inverter and battery technologies, system architecture and electrical protection.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Experience with PVsyst, HOMER or similar solar design and analysis tools is an advantage.
Experience using Zoho, Monday.com, Slack or similar CRM, project management and collaboration platforms.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, equipment datasheets and technical specifications.
Knowledge of applicable electrical, solar and safety standards is an advantage.
