About the Role

  • We are looking for someone who can sit at the intersection of strategy and execution, understand the big picture, translate it into measurable objectives, and ensure the details required to get there don't disappear along the way.
  • We are looking for a Head of Strategy & Operations to help shape Intersect Consortium's direction and ensure strategy translates into execution across the organization.
  • The role has two interconnected responsibilities.

First: Strategy:

  • The successful candidate will help oversee Intersect's overall strategic direction, including the implementation and continuous improvement of the Consortium's Objectives and Key Results (OKR) framework.
  • They will work with Directors and Heads of Departments to translate organizational priorities into clear objectives and measurable Key Results, challenge vague or poorly defined targets, monitor progress, and help management understand where execution is succeeding or falling behind.

Second: UK Clinic Operations Support:

  • The successful candidate will also provide high-level remote administrative and operational support to Intersect's new UK clinic.
  • This requires an exceptional level of organization.
  • The person will be expected to understand workflows, create systems, document processes, maintain records, track outstanding actions, follow up with responsible people, and ensure that important tasks do not fall through the cracks.

Key Responsibilities

The Head of Strategy & Operations will:

  • Support the development and execution of Intersect Consortium's overall strategy.
  • Own the coordination and governance of the Consortium's OKR framework.
  • Work with departments and business units to develop meaningful Key Results.
  • Monitor organizational performance against strategic objectives.
  • Identify execution gaps and recommend corrective action.
  • Support Directors and Heads of Departments in translating strategy into measurable action.
  • Establish systems that improve accountability and follow-through.
  • Provide structured operational support to the UK clinic.
  • Develop and document administrative and operational processes.
  • Establish effective filing, document-control and workflow systems.
  • Support UK clinic compliance with applicable administrative and data-protection requirements.
  • Ensure important actions, deadlines and process steps are tracked and completed.
  • Produce high-quality reports, proposals, communications and management documents.

Strategy & OKR Leadership:

  • The Head of Strategy & Operations will support Executive Management in developing, communicating and executing the strategic direction of Intersect Consortium.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the development of the Consortium's annual and multi-year strategic plans.
  • Translate the organization's vision into strategic priorities.
  • Support management in identifying strategic opportunities and risks.
  • Coordinate strategic planning sessions.
  • Conduct research and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor internal and external developments that may affect the Consortium.
  • Prepare strategy papers, briefing notes and management presentations.
  • Track progress against strategic priorities.
  • Identify areas where strategy is not translating effectively into execution.
  • Recommend improvements to management.

OKR Framework Ownership:

  • The Head of Strategy & Operations will be responsible for coordinating and strengthening this process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate the implementation of OKRs across the Consortium.
  • Develop OKR guidelines and templates.
  • Work with Directors and Heads of Departments to develop departmental OKRs.
  • Facilitate OKR-setting sessions.
  • Challenge Key Results that are vague, activity-based, or difficult to measure.
  • Ensure Key Results are measurable and linked to organizational priorities.
  • Ensure departmental OKRs support the Consortium's overall strategic objectives.
  • Identify dependencies between departments.
  • Maintain a centralized OKR tracker/dashboard.
  • Establish OKR review cycles.
  • Monitor progress against Key Results.
  • Identify delayed or off-track objectives.
  • Work with responsible leaders to understand barriers to execution.
  • Escalate material risks and delays to management.
  • Support quarterly and annual OKR reviews.
  • Recommend adjustments where organizational priorities change.

Departmental Strategy Support:

  • The Head of Strategy & Operations will work closely with departments across the Consortium.
  • This includes:
  • Understanding each department's responsibilities.
  • Understanding departmental objectives.
  • Helping teams translate broad ambitions into measurable Key Results.
  • Identifying duplicated or conflicting objectives.
  • Identifying dependencies between teams.
  • Reviewing progress.
  • Helping teams identify barriers.
  • Supporting departments in developing action plans.
  • Providing constructive challenges where targets are unrealistic, unclear, or insufficiently ambitious.

Strategic Projects:

  • The Head of Strategy & Operations may be assigned strategic projects by Executive Management.
  • These may include:
  • Organizational restructuring, New business initiatives, Market-entry projects, Process improvement,
  • New centre development, Cross-consortium projects, etc.

Process Design & Documentation:

  • A major responsibility of the role is ensuring that important processes are documented, repeatable, and trackable.
  • Identify process gaps, identify duplicated steps, identify bottlenecks.
  • Develop SOPs and workflow documents, establish process owners.
  • Establish escalation points, review processes periodically. Ensure process changes are documented.

Management Coordination:

Support Executive Management by:

  • Preparing meeting agendas, maintaining action trackers,
  • Recording decisions and action points, Following up on agreed actions,
  • Coordinating information from multiple departments, ensuring management requests are followed through,
  • Maintaining a central record of important strategic decisions and commitments.

UK Clinic Operational Support:

  • The Head of Strategy & Operations will provide remote administrative and operational coordination support to the Consortium's UK clinic.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Establishing administrative systems.
  • Creating structured filing systems.
  • Maintaining document registers.
  • Coordinating administrative workflows.
  • Tracking appointments and operational actions where applicable.
  • Maintaining administrative records.
  • Coordinating communications.
  • Tracking outstanding tasks.
  • Maintaining calendars and deadlines.
  • Preparing documents and correspondence.
  • Supporting management with reports.
  • Coordinating information between relevant UK and Nigeria-based teams.
  • Ensuring administrative processes are documented and followed.

UK Healthcare Data Protection & Confidentiality:

  • The successful candidate must have a strong working understanding of GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and healthcare confidentiality principles, and understand that health information is special-category personal data requiring additional protection.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Strategy, Management, Economics, Operations, Communications, Public Administration or a related field.
  • Master Degree
  • 6 - 10 years of relevant professional experience, preferably including strategy, operations, consulting, project management, business transformation, or executive support.
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior management.
  • Strong experience developing and monitoring strategic plans.
  • Strong understanding of OKRs, KPIs, and performance management.
  • Exceptional organizational and project-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong document and process-management capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities without losing track of detail.

Highly Desirable

  • Experience in a group of companies, consortium, healthcare organization or professional-services environment.
  • Management consulting experience.
