Our client is seeking a candidate who will be responsible for driving revenue and transaction-volume growth in Nigeria, with a particular focus on businesses that make international payments to overseas suppliers and beneficiaries.

The Head of Sales is a senior, hands-on sales leadership role for an experienced commercial professional who can personally originate and close high-value business accounts while building and leading an effective sales function.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Strategy & Revenue Growth

  • Develop and execute the company\'s sales strategy in Nigeria, translating growth objectives into measurable sales plans and account priorities.
  • Identify opportunities for revenue and transaction-volume growth across key business segments.
  • Establish clear sales targets, priorities, and execution plans to drive consistent business growth.
  • Remain directly accountable for personally generated transaction volume while developing the wider sales function.

Pipeline & Sales Performance Management

  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified business prospects.
  • Provide accurate forecasts on expected transaction volumes, conversion timelines, and pipeline performance.
  • Track sales activities, client conversion, transaction volumes, and account performance.
  • Prepare regular sales, pipeline, market, and performance reports for management.
  • Monitor sales performance against agreed targets and implement corrective actions where required.

Product & Solution Sales

  • Promote cross-border payment solutions that enable businesses to make international payments in Naira while beneficiaries receive supported foreign currencies.
  • Understand customer payment needs and effectively communicate the value proposition of the company\'s payment solutions.
  • Identify customer pain points and position appropriate solutions to meet their business requirements.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of market trends, competitor offerings, and developments within the payments and financial services landscape.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Operations, Compliance, and Customer Support teams to facilitate smooth customer onboarding and successful transaction completion.
  • Support the resolution of client issues that may affect customer acquisition, retention, or transaction activity.
  • Build strong internal relationships to ensure a seamless customer experience from acquisition through ongoing account management.

Sales Team Leadership

  • Build, guide, coach, and assess the wider sales team.
  • Establish clear expectations and performance standards for team members.
  • Support the development of effective sales processes, prospecting approaches, and account management practices.
  • Monitor team performance while maintaining direct accountability for personal sales and transaction-volume targets.

Business Development & Client Acquisition

  • Identify, prospect, acquire, and onboard high-value businesses with recurring international payment requirements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with business owners, importers, exporters, wholesalers, manufacturers, distributors, and other businesses involved in international trade.
  • Personally lead the acquisition, onboarding, and growth of strategic and high-value accounts.
  • Develop and leverage prospecting channels including referrals, existing networks, telephone calls, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, physical meetings, partnerships, and industry relationships.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand existing client relationships and increase repeat transaction volumes.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have at least 5 years of relevant experience in B2B sales, business development, relationship management, or sales leadership.
  • Have a proven track record of achieving substantial sales or transaction-volume targets.
  • Demonstrate experience acquiring, developing, and retaining high-value business accounts.
  • Have an established network of businesses and decision-makers that can potentially be converted into clients.
  • Possess strong business development, prospecting, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Have a strong understanding of sales pipeline development, forecasting, conversion management, and performance management.
  • Be comfortable with personally selling and closing accounts while simultaneously building and leading a sales team.
  • Be commercially driven, target-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working in a performance-linked environment.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Be willing and able to engage directly with businesses, attend meetings, participate in industry events, and develop strategic partnerships.
