The successful candidate will play a strategic role in shaping the organisation's people agenda, attracting and retaining top media talent, strengthening organisational culture, and partnering with leadership across editorial, technical, commercial, and production teams to build a high-performance environment.
The position is based in Lagos, with responsibility for supporting HR operations at the Abuja bureau.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the organisations business goals.
- Provide strategic HR guidance to executive leadership and department heads.
- Support the development of a high-performance and accountable workplace culture.
- Ensure HR policies and practices support the operational needs of a 24-hour broadcast environment.
- Lead the recruitment and on-boarding of journalists, producers, presenters, engineers, and administrative staff.
- Design recruitment processes that attract high-quality talent in the media industry.
- Maintain talent pipelines for key newsroom and technical roles.
- Ensure the hiring process is efficient, transparent, and aligned with organisational needs.
- Implement and manage the organisation's performance management system.
- Work with department heads to establish performance objectives and evaluation frameworks.
- Ensure performance appraisals are completed across the organisation.
- Support managers in addressing performance issues through coaching and development plans.
Employee Engagement & Culture
- Develop initiatives that promote employee engagement and workplace well being.
- Lead staff engagement surveys and implement improvement plans.
- Design and implement staff welfare initiatives.
- Promote the organisation's core values across the workforce.
HR Operations & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Nigerian labour laws and statutory requirements.
- Maintain accurate employee records, contracts, and HR documentation.
- Oversee implementation of confidentiality agreements, code of conduct compliance, and other governance requirements.
- Manage HR policies and ensure consistent application across departments.
- Coordinate training programs that enhance employee skills and professional development.
- Identify capability gaps within teams and develop training initiatives.
- Support leadership development and coaching programs.
HR Systems & Process Improvement
- Introduce HR technology solutions to improve HR operations and reporting.
- Use workforce data and analytics to improve decision making.
- Ensure timely resolution of HR operational issues including payroll queries.
Organizational Development
- Support leadership in managing organisational change.
- Provide HR support for business expansion, restructuring, or operational transformation initiatives.
- Help build organisational capacity through talent development and workforce planning.
QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE/ KNOWLEDGE
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Sociology, Psychology, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification such as CIPM, CIPD, SHRM, or an equivalent HR qualification.
- Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Proven experience working in complex, fast-paced organisations with multiple stakeholders and diverse workforce needs.
- Demonstrated experience operating within an HR Business Partnering model, providing strategic HR support to business leaders and functional teams.
- Experience in media, broadcasting, telecommunications, or other dynamic and highly competitive industries will be an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of HR policies, employment practices, performance management, employee engagement, talent management, and HR operations.
- Sound understanding of Nigerian employment legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Good understanding of strategic HR practices and their application in supporting organisational growth and business objectives.
