  • The Hardware/Network Technician installs, maintains, and supports computer hardware and network physical infrastructure across the University.
  • The role focuses on structured cabling, equipment installation, hardware troubleshooting, and technical support to ensure reliable ICT services for staff and students. Reports to the Head of ICT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, route, secure, terminate, test, certify, label, and document network cabling infrastructure.
  • Install and maintain network racks, cabinets, cable trays, trunking, faceplates, patch panels, and related accessories.
  • Install, configure, and maintain desktop computers, laptops, printers, scanners, and other ICT devices.
  • Diagnose and repair computer hardware faults and replace defective components and peripherals.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance on ICT equipment.
  • Mount and install network switches, wireless access points, IP phones, CCTV cameras, projectors, UPS systems, and related ICT equipment.
  • Provide first-level technical support to staff and students for hardware and connectivity issues.
  • Escalate complex technical issues to the appropriate ICT personnel.
  • Maintain ICT equipment inventory records and document cabling, deployment, and maintenance activities.
  • Assist with ICT asset verification, stock management, infrastructure expansion, relocation, and vendor-supported deployment projects.

Qualifications

  • OND or HND in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of two years experience in computer hardware support, structured cabling, and ICT equipment installation.

Requirements

  • Structured network cabling and cable termination skills.
  • Computer hardware troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Ability to install ICT equipment and peripherals.
  • Ability to use cable testing and crimping tools.
  • Basic understanding of LAN and wireless networking.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work at heights and in physically demanding environments when required.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Experience with structured cabling systems is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic installation and termination is an added advantage.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, CCNA, or related certifications are added advantages.
